Would you use these cases ?
« on: January 18, 2024, 10:56:20 AM »

The head stamps vary

They are all Berdan primed. I think they are Danish. I have 2000, it's a shame not to use them

6.5x55

I'd get them good and clean/shiny, then inspect them to make sure they were in usable conditions, then reload them with a good plinking load.

Might help, if you've got enough, to sort them by headstamp to see if firing them by headstamp gives you pretty good groups.

I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I would load 25 and see how they perform.

I have the tools to reload sized and primed Berdan cases, but nothing else. They are a one shot and throw away affair.

When I got them I assumed they were boxer primed, it was my intention to deprime and clean the cases in a tumbler. It was only when I went to deprime one that I realized what I had.     They are a complete mystery ;D

I have recently acquired this GEW 98  Mauser target rifle in 6.5x55, that's why the sudden interest in loading the old cases.

It 's 48" long and is very heavy.

It has probably the best trigger of any rifle I have shot. The receiver was made in 1917 at Spandau.

This is why the trigger is so good.

Someone spent a fair bit on this rifle.

There are a specific set of tools for de-capping and repriming Berdan cases but very few handloaders waste time going through all that.

There is no point. I expect the 2000 6.5x55 cases will last quite a while.  :)

Agreed I would buy a 6.5 x 55 headspace case though,, I would remove one of the bullets, and make sure that you’re not smashing those bullets into the lands because you have no idea what gun that was loaded for it’s factory ammunition I’m sure you’re fine, but when you go from really old stuff to more modern guns. You’re run into issues but it looks like all your stuff is old so I probably won’t be too concerned about it but if you have any problems closing the bolt or tightness I would be weary and check that

None of the cases are loaded , they are only primed, and that's the mystery.

I tried a few and they all went bang :)
