Question About Single Action Conversion of Shadow 2
« on: January 28, 2024, 05:17:17 PM »
Being a relatively new CZ Shadow 2 convert, I have to admit to having a certain lack of knowledge about these firearms.  As I understand it one can purchase a normal Shadow 2 which comes in a double action/single action pistol.  In other words first shot from the pistol with the hammer down is in double action and the next shot(s) will be in single action.  From what I have seen and read one can convert this pistol to a single action only by removing the disconnector which removes the double action feature.

If one were to go this route does it in any way change the trigger weight, or feel in single action only mode?  I recently had a chance to shoot a Shadow TS2 which as most of you probably know comes from the factory as a single action only pistol, but this TS2 had a really nice feeling trigger pull in it.  In fact it was a great feeling trigger!  Are any of the internal parts different in the TS2 compared to the normal Shadow 2 besides the lack of a disconnector and different profile trigger blade?

Thanks in advance for any help or information regarding my questions, it is appreciated.

The Tactical Sports models are going to have a better feeling trigger in single action unless you put an aftermarket hammer in your shadow. If you remove the disco without switching to a single stage trigger, and you allow a shadow to drop the hammer, instead of resetting in double action, the trigger will move all the way forward and be a dead trigger.

The TS Parts would fit in a Shadow 2, but the TS has a sear cage that doesn't move because of the stabilizer springs on the rear of it. This is one reason that makes it a better trigger then a single action Shadow from the factory.

If you use Cajun Gun Works parts, your Shadow trigger will feel better than you can make it using any other parts unless you want to hand fit a sear to a CZ Custom hammer...even if you hand fit parts, you still might not be able to make it feel better than every Cajun pro package I have ever seen. CZ custom may make hammers that don't require fitting now, but someone else will have to confirm.

The SA trigger pull doesn't magically change when you remove the disco.
It's the same hammer, same sear, same geometry, so how can the trigger pull change, it can't.

While the actions between the TS variants and the 75 variants are similar they are not the same.  As mentioned the sear cage on the TS variants is already stabilized from the factory.  Additionally they have a different designed trigger return spring and triggerbar that eliminates some of the friction surfaces.  The TS variants come with a competition hammer that has shorter hammer hooks.  They typically have sub 2lb triggers stock.

To convert a 75 variant pistol to SAO, you need to remove the disconnector and install a SAO trigger.  This will not lower the SA trigger pull weight or change the feel of the trigger break at all.  The SAO trigger will eliminate some of the pre and overtravel movement but will not alter the break feel.  In order to change the feel, you have to install competition hammer and stabilize the sear cage to really tune a 75 series close to that of a TS variant.  Due to the design differences you may never get the same feel as a TS variant.

They are tailored for two different IPSC competition divisions.  The Shadow 2 is made for the Production division and the TS is made for the Standard division.  The Production division has a minimum trigger pull requirement, the Standard division does not.

Cheers,
Toby

Did you already purchase a Shadow 2?  If not, why not just purchase a TS2 in 9mm?

I have already purchased a Shadow 2 last year and really liked it.  I bought a Shadow 2 Compact and like that pistol even more.  I was just wondering if a Shadow 2 Compact could be changed in a TS2 Compact without much effort.  A TS 2 showed up at the LSG where I go as a rental gun and I had a chance to shoot it.  I "think" I like it a bit better than my other two Shadows, but I noticed the TS 2 has some other differences, such as frame size that my Shadows don't have.  Most likely I would purchase a TS 2 if it was optic ready.  That may come in the future so I guess I will wait on that idea.  Thanks for the replies.
