This is a brand new Scorpion 3+ with the factory included mags.  If I insert an empty mag with the bolt open, I can’t get it seated unless I really smack the bottom with my palm.  With the bolt closed, they seat easily, with little effort.  I’ve discovered that when inserting one with the bolt closed, the follower gets depressed when contacting the bolt and allows the small tab on the rear of the mag to disengage and retract when making contact with a “ledge” (for lack of a better word) in the receiver.

With the bolt open, there is nothing making contact with the follower, so the rear tab is locked in place and can’t retract when contacting that receiver “ledge”.

Inserting the mag with 1 round loaded with the bolt open allows the mag to easily seat as you would expect, due to the round now depressing the follower and disengaging the rear tab.

CZ USA has never heard of this and has asked me to return my new, unfired pistol for repair.  I really hate sending it back for God knows how long, so I asked the customer service guy if they could send me a new mag to try first.  He politely refused and wants to examine the weapon.  Before I return it, I’m wondering if anyone here has encountered this and has found a solution.

I haven’t noticed that problem with the 3+. Of course, I don’t usually insert empty mags into it with the bolt open. That’s a bad habit to get into because you might inadvertently insert a loaded mag when you thought you’d inserted an empty mag, close the bolt and set yourself up for a negligent discharge. On the other hand, I habitually smack the bottom of the mag smartly into place to make sure it’s properly seated when loading.

Doesn’t sound like a major issue. Why don’t you just take it out and shoot it and see if it wears in? Or try different mags? Magpul now makes mags for the 3+. If you send it back to CZ USA there’s no telling when you’ll get it back.

Yeah, you make a good point. It just bugs me that they admit it shouldn't be doing that.  I saw some Magpuls available last week online.  I tried to purchase a couple today, but those same places are out of stock now.  Have you tried the 35 round Magpuls yet?

I’ve used the Magpul 35 rd. mags on the Evo 3 and they work fine, but a little too long and cumbersome for me. For my use, the CZ 30 rd mags work best. YMMV
