P07 Spring combinations
« on: April 29, 2024, 11:12:55 PM »
I bought the CGW pro package for my P07 pistol. I’ve  installed it before, so no big deal. But there are a lot of springs to choose from.

Stock light sear spring, red heavy sear spring, “natural” medium sear spring.
Stock (unknown weight) hammer spring, 15 hammer spring, 18 pound hs.
Stock standard firing pin safety spring, light fps spring that comes with short reset package, heavy fps spring.
Light trigger return spring, standard trs spring

That makes for a lot of combinations. What are some combinations folks here have in their guns?

I can help a little, maybe.
Sear spring--I think I have the medium or heavy one in mine.  From what I remember, it has some effect on the single action pull but not much.
Hammer spring--Use the lightest one that will work with your primers if the double action pull weight is important to you.  I shoot single action with light primers so I tend to use the 15.
FPS spring--I use the light one.  It will affect the trigger feel as the safety is moved out of the way in single action.
Trigger return spring--I use the light one.
Recoil spring--I use the heaviest one that will still allow the gun to cycle with the light load ammo for bullseye target shooting, not run and gun.  This is usually stock or one or two lbs heavier.  Choose the hammer spring first, then adjust the recoil spring last.  Run and gunners will tend to adjust the recoil spring to give the best second shot--they don't want the slide to go back in to lock up so hard that it makes the gun dip low and messes up their followup shots.

I don't compete.

I want reliability.

All my Omega models are set up with thumb safeties and carried cocked and locked (SA trigger pull is all I use).

I have the CGW reduced power trigger return springs, reduced power firing pin block springs,

I leave the stock hammer spring and recoil springs in place.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Thanks for the advice.
I skipped installing the reduced reach components. So I left the firing pin, firing pin spring and firing pin safety spring stock.
I installed the heavy sear spring, so I never have to worry about a floppy sear or hammer follow through. Light trigger return spring. And I went with the 15 pound hammer spring and will see if it reliably ignites harder European primers. And a little grease on the sear/hammer interface.
Sooo much smoother. I’ll find out this weekend if it was a good combo.

I put quite a bit of effort into tuning my PO-7 for a light DA trigger pull weight and a least creep SA carry level pull weight.  My combination is the light trigger return, firing pin return, and firing pin safety springs, a 13# mainspring, the stiffest of 3 red sear springs,a longer firing pin spring, a CGW hammer, and a 15# recoil spring - yields 7# DA and 4# SA trigger pull weights.  The CGW hammer makes a big difference in SA trigger pull feel.  Also, I trialed the the dark, natural, and red sear springs (3 Each) and found about a 3 oz pull weight variance in each color - could tune the SA pull weight between under 3# to 4#.  The oem hammer makes for a very soft SA break feel compared to the CGW hammer.  I don't use hard primer ammunition but works fine with soft primers.
