527 Single Shot Sled in 7.62x39
« on: October 01, 2023, 06:26:40 AM »
Single shot magazine adapters are getting hard to find for the 527, and I don't think the famous Bob Sled was ever made in 7.62 Russian.
I found this one on Ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/404052310727?var=673934559542   CZ 527 7.62x39 Single Shot Conversion

What's the board's experience?  Just junk, or a useful piece?

Can't speak to the single shot adapter on Ebay. But the single shot adapters are pretty simple items as a rule. All they have to do is get the round lined up with the camber. I do have the Calhoon and Bob Sleds in 223 and Hornet sizes they both work well. The one on Ebay looks to be 3D printed I'm not sure if that means anything or not. And back before the business of Bob Sled adapters was sold to another company, they advertised them in 7.62X39, but I've never actually seen one. With a total cost of $14.10 including shipping the Ebay adapter is about half the cost of a Bob Sled and 1/4 the cost of the Calhoon adapter. If you should buy one let us know if it's worth it or not.

David,
I've good reports about the metal (but pricey) Calhoon sleds, and also good things about Bob's too.  As you said, 7.62x39 wasn't available before, and now it's not even listed as an option.

I messaged the seller of the Ebay sled.  He reports he owns a 527 in .17, but has sold plenty of the adapters in 7.62 with no problems.  I'll get one and let you know how it works out.  It's good that not everyone has forgotten about the 527.

You could proabably find a 3D printer file and make one.

The seller on Ebay is probably doing that.  He's selling so economically, I'd rather get one from him, than re-invent the wheel.

A metal one, like Calhoon's, would be nice, but you'd have to sacrifice a magazine to make that.

I wonder....you might be able to temporarily block the mag follower in the 1 cartridge down position, and use that.  Could drill some holes and use one or two metal rods to hold the follower down.  Remove the rods when you are done.  But might not be worth the trouble.

Unique Tek Inc. has the BOB SLED in 7.62X39mm/6.5 Grendel listed as back ordered at $39.99. Knew I'd seen this offered somewhere.

I bought one of the plastic ones listed in the first post.  Nice, solid, and black.  Worked fine.  It's super cheap, and a nice piece of kit (as they say).

Looks like I'm going to have to invest in one for the 6.5/7.62 single shot adapters.

One of those seek and you shall find kind a deals. Found one of the Bob Sled 7.62X39 single shot adapters. It's like the 17/22 Hornet and 223 Remington action length Bob Sleds in build. The feed angle is a bit steeper, and the overall length (there usually magazine length) is a bit shorter. This one only extends down about a half inch from the bottom of the magazine well. Feeds dummy rounds in 7.62 and 6.5 Grendel without any issues. I'll end up cutting this down to be flush with the bottom of the rifle, the one shown in the picture is before it was attacked by a hacksaw.

Noticed that Uniquetek has Bob Sleds in 7.62x39 back in stock.  https://uniquetek.com/shop/ols/products/original-bob-sled/v/T1354-07

They are delrin, so they might not have an advantage over the common generic plastic ones that are out there, aside from the Bob Sled name.

There are online directories of thousands and thousands of open source 3D printer files, a lot of them related to shooting sports.
