Finally Got It Right
« on: October 18, 2024, 11:53:05 AM »
When the Kel Tec Sub 2000 first came out, I thought it was an interesting SHTF option, but that's as far as my interest went. The Gen2 came out and, while better, it still had the iron sights that I couldn't get my face low enough to use, and an expensive aftermarket mount was again required if I wanted to use a red dot and keep it installed when folded.

Then the Gen3 came out and I thought finally, they got it right. I handled one a couple weeks ago, and now have one in the safe. The rotating barrel shroud allows the red dot to stay mounted! Not having iron sights isn't an issue for me but, if I do want them, some AR backups on a 1/2" riser will work perfectly. Hopefully I'll get it out to the range this weekend and dial it in,
No matter where you're going, there you are.

I shot first few hundred rounds through the new gen 3 sub 2k the other day at the range.

All 124 grain magtech FMJ. With the Glock mags, both 15 and 33 round, the carbine functioned flawlessly. The 30 and 40 round ETS sticks gave me some failures to feed correctly. These aren’t everyone’s favorite mags but had so far functioned perfectly on my old gen 2 sub 2ks as well as my AR9. I didn’t try my drum mag yet, but it could be this iteration, or this copy, is a bit more mag sensitive.

Regardless, she’s a keeper.
