Slide scratches on my new P-01
« on: April 07, 2024, 03:10:28 PM »
The slide on my new P-01 already has a bunch of scratches. I can feel how rough it is to rack and cycle the slide.

It only saw through 50 rounds. Is there a way I can fix it myself by polishing it?

If these are NEW marks and they are deep look for the reason WHY. slides are not meant to be a perfect fit when new. This is what the breaking period is. The slide and frame (trigger components also) work against each other and mate up and smooth out. Pictures would be good, but good luck with that.

Are you talking about scratches where the slide interfaces with the frame or just scratches on the exterior of the slide itself?

Thanks all for the replies. I was referring to the loss of paint on the slide where it contacts with the frame channel.

Finish wear at the point parts slide back and forth or otherwise rub another part as the pistol functions is a fact of life.  At some point the wear marks may stop "growing" as the parts making contact rear their break in point.  The correct cleaning/lubing methods/routine helps insure wear isn't excessive.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

All new guns should be thoroughly cleaned before use, then properly lubricated. Do that, if you haven't. Don't worry about finish wear on the rails. That's bound to happen. The feel should smooth out after 200 rounds or so, if a proper cleaning and lubing doesn't do it.

Exactly. I have a couple thousand rounds on my PCR and P-01 and I'd say 70-80% of the rails are clean metal and then there's still some erratic areas of thin black polycoat.
