Sphinx SDP Compact Duty
« on: May 28, 2024, 11:29:44 AM »
Hey guys I was wondering how is the gun like. I'm thinking about buying it for 1300. I heard about the company getting bankrupt and even their firearms recalled. I see that on the gun its printed Switzerland but someone on here also has it but says unfortunately he doesn't have the swiss one but from what I seen even on the official website it says made in Switzerland so I don't understand what he meant by that.

Have you guys have any problems with it? What year was this gun made? And also I heard it has trouble dropping the mag.

First of all, the picture that you posted is not the "Duty" model, it is simply the Sphinx SDP Compact.  The Duty version has a longer grip and uses 17 round magazines where the standard Compact uses 15 round magazines. If you look at the pictures of both on the Kriss website, you can see that the portion of the grip between the rubber grips and the magazine on the Duty model is longer than the Compact.

Second, the Duty model has a full all aluminum frame including the grip module.  The Compact in the picture has an aluminum frame, but the grip module is made of a polymer material for weight savings. I believe that there were some models of the Compact that had the aluminum grip module but the picture appears to have the polymer. Go to the Kriss website and look at the pictures. On the Duty notice the machined vertical lines on the front portion of the grip, while the Compact version has more of a stippled looking texture.

When Kriss bought out Sphinx, they also bought out the existing parts supply so that when Kriss started assembling the Sphinx in the US in the beginning they used the Swiss manufacturer parts until the parts inventory was used up. From the pictures, it appears that the one you are looking at was built in Switzerland, but for a while anyway, you could have purchased a USA made Sphinx that still had "Switzerland" engraved on it even though it was assembled in the US . I'm not sure when the parts supplies were used up and the pistol was 100% assembled with USA parts, but perhaps you could contact Kriss and using the serial number, they could tell you for certain.

I have the US made all aluminum frame and grip module Duty version and it has been flawless. There are always those that say that the made in Switzerland model was built better, but that's open to interpretation.

The slide looks like a P07 slide.

The beavertail on the frame looks more like the older P07 DUTY frame than the newer P07.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Looks to be a compact.  All Sphinx.  Should be a reliable and accurate gun.  Its Swiss.

My only beef with them might be the rubber grip inserts.  At an indoor range or outdoor on a nice day, they would be great.  As soon as you sweat or run into rain, the reverse happens and they get very slick.  Not good overall.

In reviews I've read, they seem to be more accurate than san a P01 or P07 - is that needed given the inherent accuracy of CZ?  Probably not.

That's a tall order right there.  Anyone got some 100 and 200 yd. groups to compare to Joe's?

This is only 7 yds, when I was sighting in my first RMR on my newly milled P09 9MM.  Lower right, I decided to shoot the last 7 rounds in the magazine at the target company logo.  First three went up at the center but it needed a slight adjustment to the screws to get the POI more right.
