Shotgun reloading question regarding crimping.
« on: June 25, 2024, 12:28:49 PM »
As mentioned previously, I was going to get into shotshell reloading - and I did!

Got a MEC Sizemaster for 12 gauge.

Using winchester AA hulls when I crimp them, most do not fall into the chamber gauge and need to be resized at the mouth of the hull.

I tried moving the final stage crimp to no avail.

I have no problems with the Winchester Universal or the Remington gun club hulls.

Using claybuster wads for 7/8 oz loads  #8 shot, Red dot powder.

It is really nice to able to load cowboy rounds now a LOT cheaper than I can buy them.  Found a place in PA that I bought most of the components and loader from.   Car was a lot heavier going home, then going there!   ::)

Thanks in advance for your advice.
Some trust in chassis, Some in Horsepower, But we trust in the Lord our God.

If it goes "boom" or "vroom" I'm intersted.

Well, I spent an hour writing you a nice long explanation...
which I promptly and mistakenly deleted through my own shear clumsiness !  :-\

I'm not going to try and re-write that, but I will show you how a Ponsness-Warren reloading machine prevents this issue. They use a support bushing that keeps the hull from expanding during loading, and then full-length re-sizes the hull during the extraction process. Here's a vid that my son and I made years ago. Note that I'm loading Winchester AA's like you...
