Watched it - he seems pretty luke-warm over it, no faults but no benefits either...which is odd.

Well, there’s no way to be anything BUT Lukewarm about the Bren 2Ms carbine. It’s a $3,000+ safe queen with no parts or CS support in an anemic caliber. And it’s not even a faithful representation of the military rifle. We only got a few hundred of the Bren 2S in pistol form and now they’re gone forever.

This is the only one I could find on gunwatcher. Absurd:

https://www.guns.com/firearms/rifles/semi-auto/cz-bren-2-ms-carbine-223-rem-5-56-nato-semi-automatic-30-rounds-16-5-barrel-new?p=1280184

Buy a Robinson Arms XCR instead. It does everything the Bren 2 carbine purports to do (but doesn’t deliver) — easy multi caliber conversions, more accurate and reliable, etc., and you can actually get spare parts easily — from a “boutique” gun mfg.

It’s no wonder MAC dubbed the Bren 2 “the next Forgotten Weapon” after he did a lot of work to try to make it a reliable weapon.

I would not call his review luke warm - he makes comparisons in the end with some original Prebans that are famously expensive today.  Sure, the barrel profile is odd and likewise the muzzle device is also a bit odd, but all original CZ.

I haven't gotten into the Bren, but are they problematic?  (MAC can go off on tangents).

I would assume the parts aren't that available - it seems that all CZ-USA inventory is down - not just the Bren.

Yes, they have been problematic (badly overgassed) especially the 7.62x39 models. Of course, CZ did nothing to fix the issue besides blaming the owners for using cheap ammunition. MAC actually did a good job of working through and diagnosing the problem when CZ totally dropped the ball.

Fortunately, the aftermarket picked up the ball and you can now get functional gas system upgrades from HBI and KNS for @ $150.

Then there is the egregious parts shortage issue at CZ USA…and, of course, Colt Management is running the whole bleep show now.

So, yes, the Bren 2 platform is problematic.

I had issues with my 7.62x39mm CZ BREN 2, nothing since then. The Carbine works quite well, but it has only had about a hundred rounds through it - it's too HOT. Parts are a REAL problem, and Colt is running the show now, we can only wait and see. Maybe the Ukraine facility will move from assemblage to production, which will ease the parts shortage as they go into Ukraine, Hungary and the Czech military. Perhaps someone at Colt will realize they should import some tooling and dies to make spare parts here in the US, I don't know, BUT they should be happy to be part of a company that actually HAS military arms contracts.

The US should be making the Ukes take Colt M4s as a condition of US military aid. That way at least a US company will benefit from feral gub’ment largesse of US taxpayer dollars.
