What's with all the Bullet Caster's Shutting Down?
« on: July 03, 2024, 03:49:24 PM »
Recently There have been multiple bullet suppliers closing their doors.

Black in Blue out of California - He still casts but is mostly retired in AZ

Precision bullets out of Texas - I really liked these bullets!

Gallant Bullets - I don't actually know if they are closed but you can't order anything from them and it's been that way for a long time.

Black Bullets International - Just closed their doors and sold all there equipment to Brass Monkey Bullets.

What gives?  Every time I go to place a bulk order it seems like I have to find a new supplier.  Looks like I'm going to try Brass Monkey next.

Cheers,
Toby

Can't say why some of the commercial casters are shutting down but there is the alternative of casting your own. Just a casual observation but commercial casters seem to come and go pretty regularly. Something says it's a competitive market for a pretty niche product.

You can add Brazos bullets to the list.

Also Magna Cast? that makes the commercial casting equipment is no longer.

Willing to bet the profits casting bullets is pretty slim.
Add in the fact, primers are 3x and powder is pushing 2x expensive compared to just a few years ago.

I believe it's more related to the high cost and availability of primers and powder. Hobbies tend to go dormant when families have a hard time feeding themselves.

I don't use them but I just looked up https://www.brazosprecision.com/ and they look open to me. It says they are moving but I see nothing about closing. Check this guy out, I have bought from him for years and always had great luck and they are great bullets.  https://summersenterprisesllc.com/ I'm lucky I have a buddy that casts bullets and I get 1K powder-coated bullets for $100 so I have no concerns at the moment, LOL Plus I love and use a lot of RMR jacketed bullets well worth the extra $$ and cleaner to boot. There are deals out there on everything, ya just gotta look, but I do agree that Powder has/is getting silly, buy what ya can afford now cuz it prob won't be coming down anytime soon.

The cost of materials is what Dave at Precision cited as his reason for shutting down. That was a great outfit to deal with!
DG and Summit City are my go-to sources now. So far, so good.
