Longevity, CZ Compact
« on: October 01, 2024, 08:21:56 PM »
I have a CZ75 B steel frame Compact made in 2013. I purchased it used three years ago. The individual I purchased it from had not put much in the way of rounds through it, and from the looks of it when I field stripped it, it didn't look like it had been fired much. Not really knowing the history, I replaced the following with CZ OEM parts: recoil spring, firing pin block spring and firing pin return spring. I installed a CGW firing pin retaining pin, extractor spring, 85c trigger and floating trigger pin. Also installed a CZ Custom trigger return spring. I have put at least 2000 rounds downrange in the last three months. The pistol runs smoothly and I have had no issues. I keep it clean and lubed. It is also my carry pistol now.

My question is, how many rounds can I expect parts like the extractor, sear, hammer hooks and other parts to last without having to replace them? I want to keep it "stock" as much as I can, as in no lightened anything, no race gun parts etc. As of now, my spare parts stock consists of a slide stop, recoil spring, CZC TRS, CGW extractor spring and an extractor. Any other parts/springs/pins I should stock?

Thanks in advance.

The hard parts should last indefinitely assuming you don't abuse them.  The slide stop will break eventually but that is a common wear item and is in your spare parts bin.

I'd replace the trigger return, hammer, and recoil spring every 5-10k or so and pull the extractor out and clean the channel annually.  I'd have a spare firing pin retaining pin (spring steel roll pin) in the spares bin as well.  Might as well just stock all the springs (trs, sear, recoil, firing pin, firing pin block, and main) just because they are cheap and will need maintenance over time.

Cheers,
Toby

This

I shoot about 1,000 rounds a month and replace the recoil spring every 5x months. All the other springs (including magazines) and slide stop lever get replaced annually because I don't want a hard malfunction during a match. I also shoot and replace my carry ammo annually.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your input.

I wanted to add that I installed some Night Fision sights a couple of months ago and they are splendid. Today I received a few safety detent springs from Scott Perman. Installed one just a couple minutes ago. Absolute night and day positive "schnick" on and off with the safety compared to the OEM spring.

Some sound advice.  Unless someone shoots in a match or carries, going a few days waiting for a part isn’t bad.  I personally don’t see a need to stock a lot of parts especially if you have other guns to shoot.  I know people who have well over 20,000 rounds and only changed the recoil spring a couple times.  So regular cleaning, lubrication, and inspection goes a long way.

I have a 2000 D Compact that was some kind of contract gun, traded in and imported to the US some time after 2007, that has gone through who knows how many owners here before I got it a few years ago. I have several hundred rounds through it. But there's no telling how many rounds have been fired with that gun. I think it still has the original piano-wire recoil spring.
I took the time to install most of the original Cajun carry package, nothing too serious. It runs like a top.

Longevity really depends more on the user than anything CZ did. Meaning... cleaning and lubrication are very important with ANY mechanical device.

You might read about the certification testing done with the first P01's.
