What do I need for PPC and IDPA w/ my new PCR?

Enkidu,

I've been looking for a CZ-75b or PCR here in the Bay Area.  I live in Union City near Hayward, but work in Santa Clara.  What dealer did you use to get your PCR?  What were your impressions, and if you don't mind providing it, what did you end up paying out the door?

I'm coming to the realization that dealers here in the Bay Area seem to be charging a premium on handguns.  It seems crazy that the same gun that is listed on GunBroker.com for $339.00 is listing in gunstores here for over $400.00.

If your experience was different please let me know as I would love to give additional business to any dealer who is willing to be reasonable about these things.

Speedracer:

My price was $500 and with tax and DROS my total came to $560 out the door from Mike Krause at KrauseWerk Collectibles in San Mateo.  He has a webiste www.krausewerk.com/.  His asking price was $515 but was willing to negotiate. He also had a couple CZ97's, a CZ75B Compact, a CZ75BD PCR and a CZ75D on display, don't know what kind of stock he has. If he orders one for you, it will be the list price.  He has a small shop full of interesting guns, well worth the trip in my view.  The only new guns he sells are CZ's.

He's also the maker of the only series of replica .45 Lugers (check the website for an article under "Press"), he happened to have (I think) #0002 out when I was visiting and I got to get a good look at it.  Very very very cool gun.  But at $18000 it's a wee bit out of my price range :-).  I'm thinking that a more affordable C&R Luger might be my next 9mm.

If you want to get the lowest cost, you can probably get it from the CZ connection and send it to

Cash Loan Inc
104 Grand Ave,South San Francisco,CA 94080

I talked to the guy there and they charge $30 for an FFL transfer. Or you can call around for a closer shop which does FFL's for a reasonable fee.  With tax and what not, ($399 + $33 tax + $10 shpping + $30) this way should save you about $90 dollars. Also, since your CA FFL can't file a DROS until they get the piece, you'll need to wait alot longer.

If you shoot at Chabot, I may see you next month with my new PCR!

FYI - they aren't supposed to charge you sales tax for an FFL transfer from an out of state dealer. Most FFL places will do it - but calling them on it won't make them stop because they figure everyone else does it.

Correct, however, if the FFL buys the gun and resells it to you, they must tax you...

Thanks for the sales tax information guys.  I'll defeinitely keep it in mind when buying my next gun.  Speaking of which, I'm thinking:

CZ-97 (for bullseye but only after I try it again a few more times, small hands don't ya know...) or
P-08 (for nostalgia+coolness) or
1911A1 Kimber? (for bullseye, small hands shouldn't be a problem)

Two more days.  The waiting is killing me!

Woohoo, picked up my PCR on Friday and went shooting Friday.  Review over in the review section with the title  "Yet another PCR review".  Thanks again for all of the friendly advice from this forum.
