The issue with the stock CZ Scorpion trigger
« on: Today at 05:21:11 AM »
It seems that people really like the HB Industries Reduced Weight Trigger Spring Kit. However, I think the kit missed the point.

Upon inspecting the stock trigger, I believe the primary issue lies with the overly stiff spring on the hammer. It only moves a short distance before disengaging from the hammer, which is a flawed design. As a result, the spring's stiffness is relied upon to strike the firing pin effectively. A better design would feature a less stiff spring that stays engaged with the hammer throughout its travel, much like the design of Timney triggers. I particularly appreciate Timney triggers because they also make it significantly easier to pull the charging handle.

Before/After with my own Scorpion and the HBi springs:

Unaltered trigger pull weight
Wt in Kg   Wt in Lbs
1   5.13           11.31
2   4.69      10.34
3   4.86      10.71
4   4.73      10.42
5   5.14      11.33
6   5.04      11.11
7   5.22      11.51
8   4.86      10.71
9   5.23      11.53
10   4.91      10.82

average 4.981   10.979

HBI Spring Kit

1   2.79      6.15
2   2.54      5.6
3   2.91      6.42
4   2.54      5.6
5   2.37      5.22
6   2.62      5.78
7   2.54      5.6
8   2.48      5.47
9   2.73      6.02
10   2.86      6.31

Average   2.638   5.817

So, it dropped the pull weight in a bit less than half. Not too shabby for the cost and effort.

The other issue is takeup and overtravel. I've shimmed them and welded/filed to reduce those, with varying degrees of success. I'd like to set screw one trigger housing and see how that goes. Projects...

I think the HBI kit is the bomb.  For me it greatly reduced the weight 'feel' and maintains a reliable hammer.

To me also reducing the hammer spring in this gun is NOT a good thing.  The bolt traveling rearward cocks the hammer.  A heavier hammer spring absorbs recoil of the heavy bolt and softens felt recoil.  Also, slowing the bolt enhances safety in semi auto.
