Today was fun… sort of
« on: March 30, 2025, 08:57:49 PM »
Decided to take my P07 to the range for a long needed work out.

Shot about 4 mags when I saw my front sight fly to the nether world.  I changed my sights to Angry Bear Arms and have been happy with them.  Suspect I didn’t adequately tighten down the front sight set screw.

So now in search for a front sight….. was a quick end to a fun day.

BTDT but mine was with a Colt Combat Commander I'd had a gunsmith install new sight on for me.  Turns out he didn't know as much about silver soldering as he thought he did.  He'd previously staked it and it worked loose so he was going to make sure it didn't come loose again.

Those P07/P09 front sights are usually pretty tight going in.  Not the plastic factory sights like the old ones had, but any replacement sights you get for one.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

He obviously wasn't very good at either. There's never a need to solder those sights on. I bought the proper staking tool for 1911 front sights years ago and have done many and they all stayed tightly in place. Some guys try to make do without the tool and it never ends well.

A follow up.  Shout out to Caleb at Angry Bear Arms who is sending me out a replacement front sight.  Will update this once I get the replacement installed.
