75 BD or Shadow II - hear me out
« on: April 27, 2025, 09:17:04 PM »
I’m curious on what the thoughts on what’s running in my head. I’m currently running a stock beretta 92x compact for weekend warrior type UML competitor. I’m middle to lower end of the pack (more fun than anything else). I have a P10 and a CGW 75-P01 as far as CZ goes. I love the 75 and carry it. Here’s what I’m thinking about for next UML pistol for me. I am limited to Cabelas, I have a ton of gift cards I’ve accumulated.

Option 1:
Shadow (black and blue) non optic cut (wish they had the optics cut). Send that CGW and have them cut and do the pro package. Figure out a optic

Option 2:
75 BD, send it CGW for the slide cut + pro package. Figure out an optic.

—————-

I’m questioning what I’d gain in option 1 over 2 given both would be get cut and a pro package. I feel like the cost difference would be a significant (an optic, maybe an optic and holster difference going with 2). What am I not thinking about? What’s the benefits do you see going one over another?

First, I’d ask  you why you don’t shoot your P01 in competition  ;D. May help you gain experience with employing your carry gun under pressure.

That said, I’d consider the 75BD, as it’s similar in function to your P01 and manual of arms is virtually the same.

I don’t have a shadow, so can’t comment on getting that, though I expect the shadow to cost more than the bd, leaving add’l funds for other things- mags, holsters, ammo, etc.  Another aspect is the shadow doesn’t have the FP safety that the BD does, if that’s important to you.

Most of my CZs have the pro pkg and you will be impressed, pleased.

Regardless you can’t go wrong.  Good luck!

I shot my P01 for a year in competitions and then later on bought a SP01-TAC which had the exact same control layout so that I wouldn't get confused. (This was several years before the Shadow series was released.) Carrying the P01 and competing with the SP01 worked out really well.

Wobbly beat me to it.

I was going to throw the SP01 Tactical in as an option.  It is a great rig.

The biggest difference between any decocker variant and the shadow variants is the firing pin block.  The firing pin block adds a bit of pull length to the trigger in single action over the Shadow variants.  It's about 0.1 inch longer.

CZ has shadow 2 optic ready variants.  If you are interested in a standard shadow variant, CZCustom offers their RDS plate cut that is great.

Cheers,
Toby
