have have seen a few cases recently where the first owner shot their Slavia 630/631 without any lubeing ..there has been a debate about this
back and forth but what I have seen puts this to rest .
The Cz Slavia 630/631 are great guns for the money ..but as most of us know they come bone dry inside ..without a hint of lubrication ..just some "preservative " inside the bore and infront of the seal ..and the manual tells you to dry fire it to get rid of this preservative .
The problem with shooting th guns in this state is the piston is machined and is quite rough ..it is not polished .What happens is there is a lot of premature wear ..and after some time ..( dont ask me a how long ..but the guns look new on the outside ) the Guns starts to lose power .
and when tested its inconsistant and shooting a lot weaker than they are supposed to be ...regardless of the power of the spring ( or kit ) .
So its obviously a sealing issue ..and upon close examination the seal is shredded ..or badly worn ...great we have a likely culprit .
the seal is changed ..and dureing the changeing of the seal ..it is observed that the piston slides all the way to the breech end of the tube
..BY VIRTUE OF ITS OWN WIEGHT ..and the same in getting the piston out it just slides out when you turn the reciever the breech side up .
In this case the Reciever has been worn to an oversize ..the only 2 solutions would be a new reciever ( cost as much as a new gun ) or conversion to take one of JM's small Apex seals that will be a bit oversize as it flares out more than the small lips on the polyethylene slavia seal .
This is PREVENTABLE ..all you need to do is disassemble your new slavia
and polish the piston useing 200 grit emery then 400 grit emery and apply the proper lubes ... as in this how to ..generously done in great detail by Clayton ...

at least do the deburring and polishing and apply some lithium grease on the piston ..none in front of the seal ..untill you get the lubes .
If you have already shot your slavia and are unsure if you have any damage or not ..take it apart and test it ..by removeing the piston
you should need a screwdriver in the slot to slide the piston out and a needle nose pliers to hold the piston rod and remove the piston .
if the piston slides out and slides in you may have a problem .
if you are considering buying the slavia ..but have no intention of lubeing it ( although it is easy to do ..and the instructions make it very simple )
consider paying another $60-$70 and getting the Diana 24 .. as the action and piston on the Diana are polished at the factory and lubed ..with grease
not molly but lubed none the less .You can shoot the Diana 24 as much as you desire and a debur and relube with molly is an option rather than a nescessity as is the case with the Slavia .
I had to share this Information as I have seen several cases where the CZ 63x gun was used extensivly dry as supplied by the factory and has lost compression as a result ..it will still shoot ..but will have a rough shooting behaviour as it has an inadequate air cushion ..and will shoot weak .
A shame to allow this to happen as they are a gem in the rough ..and a little care goes a long way . Once it is deburred and polished and lubed with molly it is good till you need a rebuild ..which may be many many years .This will greatly extend the life of your gun as it will virtually ELIMINATE WEAR AND TEAR , and give you much better consistancy and accuracy in the meantime .All that galling takes away energy from your shots and causes an Inconsistancy between shots that robs your gun of accuracy .
The same applies ot the Chinese guns but they are in a category of their own .The CZ are well engineered and built guns ..but require this TLC to get the most out of them .
Of course you could also get the Diana 24 and Tune it !! that takes it to new hieghts too whatever your choice look after your guns and you will get better use and a prolonged life out of them and better resale value when you wish to sell them .
