Tight magazines on a new 75B .40
« on: January 03, 2006, 03:37:38 PM »
I recently bought a new CZ75B in .40 S&W. The magazines are supposed to hold ten rounds but when I get the 8th round in and push it down to insert the 9th (forget 10 rounds! Won't fit!), the ammo hangs up and sticks in the down position?? I can barely get a 9th round into the mag. Both factory mags act identical in this respect. Any ideas or is this a CZ characteristic??

A very unusual situation.

Are you using factory ammo, or handloads?    (If factory ammo, what brand and weight?)

If you're using standard factory ammo, take the mags apart, make sure there's nothing on the inside causing problems, lube them lightly and wipe off all oil that you can see, and reassemble.

If they still stick, call CZ-USA for replacements.

I've tried several brands of ammo, all factory stuff. I've had the mags apart several times looking for burrs and what have you. Wiped them down inside with a very lightly oiled rag. Nothing has helped. Looks like I'll be calling CZ tomorrow

Thanks for the help.

I just got an email back from Mike Eagleshield at CZ, and he seems to think I've got what he refers to as a leftover "CLINTON" pistol. He said the mags would have a sawcut about midway, between the top and bottom. I haven't checked them yet, but I will tonight when I get home.

I would like to compliment Mike for a (honestly), 10 minute response time. Thanks, Mike and thanks CZForum.

LEt us know what the deal is. Interested to find out.
FYI I was using a Sp01 magazine today just for kicks and loading with 40 S&W and obviously using in a 40 CZ.
It took 14 rounds and fitted and function perfectly must ahve used it liek 20 times and no problems go figure.

UPDATE:

Mike E. and I have exchanged several emails now and I think he has come to the conclusion that I DO NOT have "Clinton", magazines. They are Mec-Gar, .40 S&W, 10 round, or at least they are marked that way. I have an email directed at Mec-Gar also.

Mike wants me to mail the mags back to him for replacement, which I will do tomorrow. It's a shame though, because I have yet to get to shoot this pistol due to flooding in our area and the ranges are under water. I guess good things come to those who wait?

I'll post an update when I get the new magazines.

jer1949, I just wanted to ask about your magazine issues.  Have you had the hangup problem with hollow points or FMJ's?  The reason I ask is that I have the same issue with mine, but it's only on hollow points.  Anything else, fits fine.  I actually bought some hollow point bullets this weekend to reload with to see if maybe it's the OAL on the factory HP's that is causing the problem.

I think we have a second topic here what you are talking about is the bullet sliding forward and catching on the nose of the magazine release and easy fix. Just trim back the nose of the Slide stop.

I apologize for neglecting this thread for so long, but I've been sidelined by business matters.

Back to the tight magazines---

Last post I stated that Mike at CZ wanted me to mail the magazines to him for replacement, but being the stubborn mule that I am, I just had to make at least one attempt to shoot this thing. I'd had it for a month but was unable to get to the range before this time due to wet weather here and the neighbors get pissed when I shoot up the back yard.....cats don't like it either.

Well anyway.....I put about 300 rounds through the pistol last Sunday and it shot flawlessly.....I've never shot a more accurate weapon. At 25 yards (freehand), I was doing 3 1/2" groups, consistantly.

Oh....the magazines. After each mag had been force fed 9 rounds a few times, they both seemed to loosen up. On the third go around I crammed in 10  and all went good. Don't ask me why....I don't have a clue. Maybe Angus has an explaination.

For now, I am satisfied with the pistol and consider the issue resolved. I will be buying at least 3 or 4 spare magazines in the near future....do you sell'em Angus??

Thanks to all who have responded.

PS- They were FMJ, truncated, but not hollow points. Winchester WB-Wolf-S&B......shot all three that day and not one failure....not even a burp.

Maybe there was something in the gun, or the magazine retention palte was skewed and after you shot it the plate dropped into place.

But like I so often tell people when they ask about problems, even before they shoot the gun. Go SHOOT.
Shoot 500 600 round and tell us if you stil have problem. Most guns need breaking in CZ are no different.
But above all I am glad it is fixed.
