Gun Belt
« on: November 25, 2003, 11:21:50 AM »
I'm in the market for a gun belt and thought I'd try to get your guys'  input.  I'm a new shooter, and don't know a lot about gun belts.  What I don't need is something for concealed carry.  What I need is something for USPSA production and practicing in the hills.  I thought it would be cool if as many of you as possible would sound off on what belts you use for range work and competition.  Thanks in advance.

IPSC (which is USPSA.COM in USA) requires a belt go through the belt loops. HOWEVER, you can use an "outer belt" velcroed to the inner belt. Why bother? If you use a holster (other than a paddle) its a pain to always put it on & take it off just to practice & shoot every weekend. Besides, the holster & mag pouches are never quite in the same place from day to day. Pracitce with it in one spot & it won't quite be there next time.

The 2-piece belt is common in all Divisions of USPSA including production. Mount the holster & pouches on the outter belt ONCE & they are always there. Belt comes off in seconds without your pants falling off.

I have both a safariland gunfighter and a CR Speed Hi-torque system belt; the CR speed is far supperior & it even costs less!! Brownells has these as do many of the vendors in the USPSA monthly; Frontsight. This is the belt you want.

Yeppers, the doble belt system is pretty cool. I don't mind threading the stuff on and off so I use a Wilderness Instructor's belt.

The Wilderness belts are excellent gear, as long as you don't mind shelling out the coins.  Heavy leather belts can be had at WalMart for around $10.  They work fine for the everyday tasks of carrying a gun.  All depends on where your pocketbook is...
