IDPA Holster for CZ 75B in 9mm
« on: May 12, 2003, 06:39:30 PM »
I'm going to shoot a little IDPA this year, and I will be using my CZ-75 in 9mm.  Can you give me some advice on the selection of a good (fast) IDPA holster?

Thanks,

jdkelly

There's no suitable recommendation for YOU.  You'll have to find what's best for you through trial and error.

What I WOULD recommend, however, is that you buy a good quality plastic or Kydex holster as a starting point, use it, and see what others are using, and try theirs, if they'll let you.  Any of these shouldn't be more than $25 - $40.  A Fobus, Blade-Tech, or Cen-Dex plastic/kydex holster is a good start.

I prefer "paddle" holsters for IDPA, but you may want one that attaches to the belt.  A hefty "holster" belt is also recommended, even with a paddle holster.

I use a more-expensive Safariland holster for most of the guns I shoot, but "carry" in a tuckable IWB holster from a NC holster maker.  I also have a very nice Cen-dex IWB belt holster I use from time to time, and several Fobus holsters.

The Fobus "double" mag, paddle mag holder (model 6900) is very good and relatively inexpensive.  (Around $20.)

Mr. Sherrill,

Thanks for your input.  I've been looking into the Fobus and Blade Tech holsters.  I'll check out the Cen-Dex holsters and go from there.

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that registered CZ Forum members may avail of a small discount when purchasing Cen-Dex holsters. Is this offer still valid, and how does one go about claiming it?

I received my Forbus holster for my 75B '99 MIL yesterday.  It was a very tight fit.  I used a heat gun on it to loosen it up just a bit and then sprayed Armor All inside the holster.  I can now get the gun out without loosing my pants:D .

It is the Forbus made specifically for the CZ 75B.  I haven't shot a IDPA match yet but at least I can get the thing out.  Now I guess it is up to me to hit the target.:lol

Sunday, June 1st will be the test.

Nah, that's not the real test.

The real test is shooting your first CLASSIFIER, where you're shooting only against yourself, in a relatively difficult course of fire, which includes shooting from barricades at 20 yards and from beside a barrel at 15 yards. <grin>  Or while retreating, shooting WHILE you move (you can't stop!).

You'll HAVE to do a classifier sooner or later, and it is almost always a humbling experience.  You find that you have 10 thumbs, three feet, and can't handle a tactical reload (which is something you need to practice before your first match.)

I use the Fobus paddle with my Pre-b. We shoot a match at different ranges almost every weekend. It's never let me down. It was a little tight in the beginning, but a little spray silicone was all it took. The biggest problem I see with new Fobus users is their draw. Being a passive restraint poly holster, it cannot be drawn from slowly. You must draw with a snapping motion. It took me a little getting used to, but once I learned the draw, it worked great. One of the great things about Fobus is their warranty, but those of you using heat guns on them may void that. I think loosening them up is a mistake. They will "break in" and loosen slightly after the first use or 2. Those that heat them, may cause them to loosen up too much, creating a retention problem. I hate seeing a weapon hitting the ground near a group of people, loaded or unloaded. Good luck and have fun.

Mine was so tight I could not remove it from the holster.  Infact, I was very worried that I might have to physically destroy the holster to get the weapon out when I first tried the fit.:(

I live in California and the county where I live is not allowing, for the most part, CCW permits.  I am not ever going to have to worry about a loaded weapon hitting the ground......at least mine.:o   I am interested in IDPA simply to meet new folks and to find a new form of having fun with my CZ.

I work at a Community College and even our campus police in uniform are not allowed to "carry".  The only thing they "carry" is a cell phone....and a lot of guts.  I guess things are going to have to get a lot worse before they get better in this state.....if ever.

Well, I am off to the range to see if I can do a little barn shooting.  The broad side has a few holes in it.:lol
