What's your Carry Ammo?
« on: December 07, 2007, 09:48:14 PM »
At the moment I load 115 gr +P Golden Sabers, but read a number of reviews that unequivocally state that they've become somewhat antiquated given recent additions to the the defensive ammo market, and have been considering a change. Generally people seem to favor the lightweight +P rounds for their expansion, but the Federal HSTs in any weight seems to have nothing but good reviews in that department. Winchester Ranger-T 127 gr +P+ is also on the radar, along with Speer Gold Dot short barrel. DPX is too expensive in my less than knowledgeable opinion.

So what does everyone carry? And is there any brand/weight/pressure you would recommend I stay away from, or that you've found the RAMI to have any issues with? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I just got my Rami Poly a short while back, gonna try 115gr DPX, if that doesn'y work will go with 115 gr Silvertips. I have lot's of 115gr FMJ that I use for practice, so I try to stick with the same weight. Still trying out stuff for reliabilty.

MY RAMI seems to do OK with 124 gr.+P Gold Dots. Will NOT run the Cor-Bon PowRbaLL OR ANY +p+ AMMO.
Has slide velocity issues and jams.

Others use the SPEER load with confidence in their RAMI.

Will take some experimenting to see what will work best in your gun before you decide on a carry load.

My range ammo is 115 grain WWB, but I have no issues with switching bullet weights between practice and carry so long as I can adequately test both.

I saw a multitude of negative ballistics info on 147 and 115 grain, so I split the different and went with 124. I ordered 250 rds of Federal HST 124 +p from ammunitiontogo.com. If there aren't any issues I'll order 250 more once that's gone, which will probably take less than a day, just as soon as these d*** law school exams are over.

Thanks for the feedback all. For the sake of future ammo considerations it would be great if people could continue to post their ammo choices should they come across this thread. Thanks again.

Someone, some time ago, recommended Fiocchi  115 JHP, designation 9APHP.  I bought 500 rounds.  Fiocchi claims it comes out at 1250 fps, and I've found it to have good penetration and spread.  It also feeds better in my Rami 9 than anything else I've tried.

I like 125 gr Hornady HAP bullets with 4.5 gr of Universal. Good power and much less expensive than factory.

I was surprised at ClarkstonCZ's problems with Corbon/Glaser PowerBall.  I have run at least 50 rounds of it thru my alloy RAMI 9mm.  No problems at all!

In my limited testing of my Rami 9mm (two different shoots, about 200 rds total))I had one FTF with Corbon Plus P ammo. Pulled the hammer back and the round discharged on the second try. Also had one FTF Remington HP, one FTC. So far my grouping with Corbon Plus P has been terrible. Also my grouping with PMC 115 gr has been lousy too. The group problem I can work on, but not happy with FTF. Captpan

After 250 rounds of the 124 grain +P HST I've had no problems whatsoever. The recoil is a little rough out of the RAMI vs the P-01, but more than acceptable. I'll be sticking with this ammo for the foreseeable future, especially when considering the very affordable prices you can find it for online.
