PO1 just back from Matt Mink
« on: November 21, 2007, 01:14:53 PM »
My P01 just came back Priority Mail from Matt Mink, where it went to have its ratchety trigger smoothed and a pair of night sights installed. The sights are big and easy to use in normal light. And - oh my gosh - the trigger! It's wonderfully light and crisp single-action and oh-so smooth double action, even from hammer-fully-down.

I haven't been to the range with it, but it has to work great there. The shooter interface is so much better than it was. If you are thinking about sending your gun away for this sort of work and you are concerned that a decocker gun will not respond well to his ministrations, set aside your reservations.
Didn't take a lot of time and didn't cost as much as you might expect. Recommended, bigtime. Happy Thanksgiving, Matt and all you CZers!

Hi Joe,

Here's Matt's email address. He was prompt in responding to my emails and gave me very complete information about the work and the cost.

Well tell me what was the difference - before & after your work was done (perhaps a range report)

     Thanks

I'm the guy who raved about his P01 after Matt Mink's work on the trigger and sights. I've been to the range twice now with the Minked pistol, and I'm delighted with it. Seems to me that if you buy a new or used CZ for a fair price, and send it to Matt or Angus or one of the other CZ-smiths for the laying-on of their hands, you will have as fine a 9mm handgun as you can get - for less money than you can spend elsewhere.

Do not mistake my meaning. My gun does not magically guarantee hits touching one another in the A-zone. It's a tool (as some guy in an old movie said) and now it's a perfect tool.

It sits in the hand as it should, it points naturally at what you want to shoot at, it "runs" flawlessly and the trigger is now transparent, not noticeable or distracting. The gun cooperates with the shooter in making good shots. My gun cooperates with me so that I can make good shots. Where it and I interface, it does me nothing but favors.

Matt did up a CZ85 for a friend of mine. She finished third at the Nationals. It is indeed a work of art.

I have a Angus SA converted Pre-B 75 and a Matt Mink worked P01. Both are my favorite pistols. Matt did the carry action with nightsights. Great work.

Had Matt work on my P-01, doing an action/trigger job for carry and adding Trijicon night sights.  Smooth and precice, now.  Highly recommended.

Would a non-decocker version be easier for a home gunsmith to work on? Safety versions like the SP01 or CZ75 Compact would seem to be much easier to detail strip.

That would be a "yes." Should be little different than most semi autos, so if you have experience, you should be good to go!
