Surplus 7.62x25 Ammo Preference
« on: November 13, 2007, 11:40:11 AM »
I have some Polish surplus. I'm looking to buy some more. Which surplus 7.62x25 do you prefer?

I'm looking at Bulgarian from Century or Romanian from AIM.

I just ordered a BUNCH of 7.62x25 from AIM.  After I get it, I'll let you know.  Should be here in about a week.  Plus a bundle more of 7.62x39.  Had a great experience.  Thank you Chris and Linda at AIM.

I decided to get AIM's Romainian too. The whole Bad Bulgarian thing just leaves a bad taste for the Bulgarian.

Unfortunately, It seems that several places are running out of anything but the bulgarian. Our days of cheap milsurp may be coming to an end...

Yea, I wish I would have gotten another case of the Polish from Centerfire before they ran out.

I bought a tin of the Romanian from Aim, and it's worked flawlessly.  Shoots 1500fps+ if I remember right.  I haven't even had to double tap a primer yet.  If it wasn't corrosive I'd have a closet full of it!

I think I'll be stocking up on the corrosive milsurp sometime before the election because Hillary is leading the polls. It may become very difficult to order gun stuff in the next couple years. Ron Paul 08!

I have a couple of sealed tins I have yet to open.  Forget if it was Romanian or Bulgarian.  Also have some Yugoslavian surplus. I have been shooting S&B (both the S&B label and the Winchester made by S&B and relabeled for the US market) and Prvi Partizan (now Wolf Gold).  Been leery of tryingn the  milsurp due to corrosive ammo issues, but I guess I should try it.

I have had good sucess with the Bulgarian. Romanian seems to get stuck in my 52. I need a few hits with my left hand to get them to go off. Bulgarian seems to go each time. However, the Romanian is cheaper so I have one more can of each coming.

I have used both Romanian and Polish, and I thought both were as reliable and as accurate as S&B.  I didn't experience any missfires or problems with their function.  Unfortunately, it does appear that they are getting more difficult to find.  Pete

I'm only forming a theory at this point, but it seems that the reliability of surplus ammo depends on how long it has been sitting in storage. (Yeah, in hindsight it was an obvious realization.) I bought some Romanian from the 1970's that was great. Later this summer I bought some "Russian" without checking the headstamps or labels that turned out was mismarked, and was actually 1950's Bulgarian, and it was terrible. From here on out I'm asking both where and when it was made.

I have never shot the Bulgarian.

To me the Polish was the best. Very few misfires and seemingly more accurate in my gun.

The Yugo stuff I had seemed super hot, not very accurate, and a lot of times the cases would rupture with the neck intact.

All the Romanian I tried  I needed to push the slide shut first.

I ran thru 2 cases of Polish.
