Your opinion on sights: Fiber optic, MeproLight, or OEM
« on: April 25, 2009, 07:02:01 PM »
I was thinking of replacing the sights on the Phantom.  I was looking for opinions, comparisons, or experience with the Fiber optic, Meprolight, or OEM sights.  I'm not looking into the adjustable sights.

One thing I want to know is how the fiber optic sight compares to the OEM sight in low light.

I would like to get the sight that is best for daylight and lowlight shooting.

Are you using the gun for duty, home defense, competition?

I've got standard night sights on my SP01, and for pretty much everything they work as intended.  Since it is primarily a competition pistol, I'll be switching to fiber optic in the future.

It's all in what you want your gun for.

I'm leaning toward the fiber optic since it isn't radioactive and it won't have to be replaced in 5 years.  I suppose if I need a night sight I could use a laser.

Personal and home defense is the intention.  However it's only been used at the range.

Hello: Go for the fiber optic front sight. It works great for target shooting and not bad for inside usage. You may want to go to an inside range and see how the fiber works for you. Usually the range will have pistols they rent out with fiber front sights and will let you take a sight picture in the range. You can even turn out some the lights to get a better idea. Hope this helps. Thanks, Eric

The FO front sight on my CZ does nothing at all in very low light or darkness.
FO sights collect and concentrate available light, so if your needs include nightime home SD, you'd be best off with something that glows in the dark.
