Hello, new CZ 85 owner with inquiry, thank you
« on: October 10, 2008, 01:03:29 AM »
Hello,
I purchased the pistol today. I did alot of research and decided this was the best pistol (IMHO). The salesman tried to push a Glock but when I held the CZ, I was in love!! However, could you please help me? I must have the most reliable pistol available:
1. What Wolff springs would you recommend for reliability (ie., extractor, recoil, etc)?
2. I have the 2-16 round mags, which Wolff spring?
3. Any other suggestions?
Thank you very much for your time & have a great day!

get your ammo of choice and go shoot the gun..run it about 500 rounds..and see then if something isn't working.
many times problems are caused by switching out things..before giving the gun a good breakin..

when I breakin a gun I like to have two or three mags..mark them.. have two or three different ammo brands or bullet types.. if I can..I like a couple of different weights of recoil springs too.

make sure you get all the cutting oil off the gun..re-oil and lube the gun..and shoot.

I have seen guns need anywhere from 0 to 500 rounds to breakin and finally run..

All of eerw's points are good ones.

As for Wolff springs, etc. -- shoot the gun before making changes.  The quickest way to make a reliable gun unreliable is to start changing it from its factory configuration.  Change out springs to change things you don't like about it, like spent cases going to far, hammer a bit too heavy, etc.

If you want a weapon that is absolutely, 100% reliable, find a nice rock to carry around.  Even Glocks and Rugers can have issues.   If you don't tinker much with the CZ-85B or Combat, you should be in good shape.

Hi,
Thank you very much for the great advice. I appreciate your time; moreover, I will do as you recommend. Please assist me with one more detail. I was reading the manual and a Firing Pin Block safety was discussed. Indeed, the manual, recommended utilizing the expertise of qualified gunsmith to clean firing pin (if the block is present). How can I discern if my pistol has this block?
Thank you & have a great day!
Also, I will try to use forum appropriatly in future.

If you have an 85B, you have a FP block (B= block). To check, remove the slide and turn it over, if you see a circular black object in the underside of the slide that moves up when you press it, that's the block.

Don't worry about cleaning the firing pin too much, just blast it out with some gunscrubber every now and then. If you really want to remove it yourself, check the home gunsmithing forum for the details, but it's not that involved.
