Adjusting rear sight?
« on: January 25, 2009, 05:51:04 AM »
When I bought my 75B about a month ago, I really enjoyed shooting it, but all my shots seemed to go a little to the left. I'm still a novice shooter, so at the time I just attributed it to my technique and thought it would smooth out as I got more practice. Recently upon closer inspection, I discovered that my rear sight is not perfectly centered. It's positioned just a hair to the right, which would result in shots going a little to the left. Is there any way to adjust my rear sight myself, or should I take it to a gunsmith? And how much do you think a gunsmith would charge? This seems like something simple for someone who has the tools and knowledge to do it, so I wouldn't think it would cost too much.

Well, Plebius15, you might still consider yourself a novice. Have you shot this pistol from a rest? That would tell you if it shoots to point of aim. It might be your technique, your grip, that is pushing the gun to the left as you squeeze the trigger.

The fact that the rear sight is a "hair to the right" may mean nothing. The factory shoots these things and adjusts the sights. Moving the sight back to "center" in this case means moving it to the left which would move the point of impact further still to the left. Before you change anything be certain it isn't you. Have a seasoned shooter try your pistol, if it still shoots to the left, then it may be the gun.

After giving it more thought, I'm completely convinced it's the rear sight. I'm a novice shooter, but not a complete beginner. I've fired off about a thousand rounds before I got my CZ 75B, and I've never had this problem with any other gun. The rear sight being slightly to the right is what's causing my shots to go left, so moving it back to center would move my shots to the center. I can show you one of my targets if you like, it shows rather dramatically that my gun shoots to the left.

Plebius 15,

To adjust your rear sight to have your POI hit POA, you MOVE THE REAR SIGHT
in the SAME DIRECTION YOU WANT TO MOVE POI. In your case you will have to
move your rear sight to the RIGHT. Just as OldShooter indicated. Think about it!
Best to shoot from a rest before making any adjustments.

I just realized that I was wrong. I thought that the rear sight being off to the right would move my shots to the left, but after thinking about it, I realized it would actually move my shots to the right. I think I'll have to shoot some more before I make any adjustments.

Now you are on to something. Work on your grip and squeeze, concentrate.
