Mag release
« on: March 13, 2009, 10:36:58 AM »
Don't know if this has been asked before, but is it possible to change mag release to other side of the gun (left handed?)

Thanks

No, I can't on mine (2006) unfortuantely.  I am right handed but prefer the mag release on the right side.  I find my reloads are faster and easier when I use my trigger finger to push the mag release.  Yuo are left handed and might want to try this as well.  I know a number of competition shooters who have made the switch.  I find my CZ85 Combat ackward now when I do my reloads.

Personally I think Browning got it wrong on the1911 and everyone just copied him.

Yes it can be changed. Look here to find out how. (Some models requires removing the trigger)

You can on a SP-01 but you can't on my CZ 85 Combat and that is what he has.  If you have the round mag release you can't reverse the mag release like you can on the SP-01.  I don't know whether Ghost sells a right side mag release for the older models or not.  I guess I should check!

i have 2 cz 85's
One is a transitional from 1991 but looks like a B model except for hammer and sight.
The other is brand new Combat 2008, just got it and plan to use both for IPSC. Problem i have is my grip, as sometimes my 1st knuckle of middle finger of left hand ( :P) will hit the release.
Working on changing grip but thought if it was on other side it shouldn't be a problem.  Flip side of equation is that during a change I use that same knuckle to do a mag change.  Sounds wierd but actually works fast.

Dont know what to do but if its is possible I might do a change.

Just as an afterthought, this might not be allowed under Production rules if I do change.  Have to check into it.

Cheers

For guns that can be reversed it is legal for USPSA/IPSC to swtich the mag release over to the other side.   I know the new production 75B's can be changed but the old stye can't be.  My CZ85C is the only gun other than my 1911's that I haved made the switch.  Brownells sells a part for the 1911's that allows the switch, I just haven't bothered to spend the bucks for the part yet.

Thanks Bob,

Just curious, what do you need to buy and how much is it? Also who sells it?

If you are talking about your CZ85 then it is not possible IF your mag release is completely round.  The SP-01 and the new stainless 75B's can be switched as CZ redsigned the mag release.  The cut out on the frame on your 85 is likely round on the left side of the frame and "different" on the right side.  The cut outs for the mag release on the SP-01's is the same on both sides.
