Newbie has potentially dumb question on his 85...
« on: May 04, 2009, 11:19:37 PM »
When I chamber a round, I can not engage the safety with the hammer "down". Only when I cock it, will the safety go "up" (safe). Am I missing something? New to the CZ family (just bought one because I found a great deal) so forgive my ignorance.

yeap, normal, with a DA/SA CZ (other than decocker) you have 2 choices after chambering a round, put the safety on it cocked or carefully lower the hammer by hand giving you a double action first shot. depending on your situation you will may use either.

The only dumb question is the one that remains un-asked. We have all seen dumb answers at one time or another. Most SA autos have to be cocked to operate the safety. You will have to determine for yourself which method of carry you are comfortable with.

Yes, that's normal jaughtman.  The safety won't engage w/ the hammer down.  You can only engage it when the hammer is cocked.  Same w/ the Shadow.

Follow-up newbie question:  Is it possible for a gunsmith to modify a CZ 85 so that the safety may be engaged with the hammer down?

Well, that can be done.  But why would you want to do that?  ???
