New to Shotguns need advice
« on: May 02, 2009, 08:05:29 PM »
My brother wants to start shooting trap skeet and sporting clay's with me. I have several CZ pistols and love how they shoot, so I want to stick with CZ for my shotgun needs as well. What would be a good entry level shotgun for trap?

I also have a CZ RAMI and I think a good shotgun would be
one of there ringneck models in 16ga.
Thats what I want anyway.
I shoot a Benelli auto right now and love it,
just want to get a nice double.

I just ordered a 712 auto from Davidson's for the same reason.  Reasonably priced, interchangeable chokes - a do it all shotgun with 28" barrel.

Just keep in mind 16 ga ammo is harder to find and more expensive than 12 ga. Also you will have less choice of loadings.  I am a 16 ga fan, grew up with one, but I have to admit there is nothing a 16 will do that a 12 won't do better.

I recently sold my Browning "Sweet 16" shotgun, which was used mainly for pheasant hunting and skeet shooting.  It's been in the family for 40 years !   They were wonderful shotguns,  but as mentioned,  the 16 guage ammo is not being manufactured as it once was.  I would choose model that has popular loadings.   Plus I have more time for my CZ's !

Very true Fatexfed2 the 16ga ammo is harder to find.
It's just fun calling Geese into range and shooting them
with a Sweeetttt 16 !!!

Yeah I shoot a Benelli auto too.  I can't say enough about the Benelli.  It is a superb machine.  I too am wanting a double, but I'm thinking along the lines of a Merkel side by side.  If you have an inkling to get an auto I would get a Benelli.  They are expensive,  but you get what you pay for.  I don't know much about the Ringneck, but with a bit research you'll make the right decision.
