I had a great 2 1/2 hour training session with Mike Seeklander at USSA yesterday. For those unfamiliar with either, please go to
www.usshootingacademy.com. Fabulous training facility and programs. I am lucky enough to be 2 hours away from Tulsa, OK. Okay it was 105 degrees, but oh, well.
Mike is a great guy, very professional, and a great trainer. His personal web site is:
http://www.shooting-performance.com/index.htmlHe is all about establishing a technique that is the most efficient, accurate, and safe.
If you ever get a chance to go to USSA or attend some of their training, you will not regret it.
Most of the time we had was devoted to the "Firing Cycle". There is a clip on his site that shows in 3 seconds what took me an hour to get down correctly consistently. It is similar to golf - have to get the grip and swing set up before you can do anything else.
The end result was a series of steps that are consistently performed slow then up to speed:
1. solid strong hand grip of the gun and support hand move to the chest
2. draw
3. move gun hand and the support hand together
4. form the grip getting as much hand surface ont he gun as possible
5. move the muzzle to the target in a straight line
6. pick up the first target
7. simultaneously stack the trigger
8. align the site
9. relook the target and fire
10. reset the trigger to be ready to fire the next round.
Moved on to a nice firing drill with reload. same technique on the reload as the firing cycle.
Holstering is a "reverse draw". Very deliberate and keeps the form set in the mind.
Visualization of errors and imagining the correct form ended the terrific session.
Good Shooting!
