Grip Screw Question (I know they are 3.5 -.6 X 8mm)
« on: February 28, 2007, 11:31:33 AM »
OK, so I used the search feature and found the proper grip screw size.  And yes, they are impossible to find around here.   While doing my search I saw a post that reference re-tapping the hole to accept 1911 size grip screws, but it did not go on to say what that size is.

Could someone please enlighten me?  Thanks.

OK, so I found the 1911 dimensions, finally.  Of course they are an odd ball size too.  I don't have a tap that size and don't plan on spending $35.00 that Brownells is asking for one.

So does anyone know where I could get my hands on some grip screws?

Just take it to your gunsmith and have him (or her) re-tap the holes to take 1911 grip screws.  It may cost a bit more up front, but it gives you many more options on grip screws and you can find replacements at virtually any gun shop or gun show in the US, if not the world.

Also, Grip screws for the Ruger Mark II are more commonly available than CZ's and while not the exact same size, are close enough to the CZ's size to be usable without harming the factory thread cuts. I have Allen head Mark II screws on most of my CZs and they've worked great for me..
