CZ 82
« on: November 17, 2009, 08:27:21 AM »
I've got several CZ pistols (9mm, 40, and a 380) and really like them.  Now, being absolutly unable to say no to a "bargain" here's what's in the air.  A guy has 2 CZ 82's (in 9x18 Makarov) for sale...both clean and solid but with damage to the "paint" they were finished with.  Both are said to be tight shooters and no problems...just cosmetic scratches, etc...He wants $200 each or just under $400 for the pair and may take less.  Worth it?  Also is there some way to refinish the pistols or just let them be?  Don't want to spend a lot.. I don't know the CZ82 at all (have an 83 I'm just getting to know) and are there any major pitfalls or weaknesses with the 82 in 9 Mak?  Thanks

I have an 82 and I love it. It is a tack driver. It cycles any type of ammo I feed it and has never had a FTF, FTE etc... mine also had what could be called holster wear. After reading some of the posts on here I removed and dissassembled the slide and stripped the paint/coating using paint stripper and coated it in flat black High temp paint. A lot of folks on here have Dura-Coated thiers and there are some awsome pics and advice throughout the curio and relic boards on here to help with it. $400.00 for both is a great deal IMHO. Good luck.
I have a CZ and some other guns.
I really want to have more. That's not a bad thing.

Check them out.  If they are in decent mechanical shape, buy them.  Extra mags are pretty pricy, so $200 is a good price if they come with one mag, a great price if they come with 2.  If you want to part with them later, you won't loose money.  Don't be too put off by dinged finishes.  I stripped and cold-blued mine recently.  It was not that hard a job and mine looks great now.

Good Day!!

As you probably know, the CZ-82 and CZ-83 are exactly the same pistol, except the former is in 9 X 18 Makarov caliber and the latter is in 380 ACP.  The latter is in current production while the former police and military C&R pistols were made from ten to 20 years ago.  Mine are both great shooters and reliable as the sun rising every morning.  I reload ammo for both calibers, but you can find plenty of commerical stuff.  The 9 X 18 has a bit more spiff to it compared to the 380, but quite a bit less than a 9 mm Lugar.

Best regards,

Bill

The CZ82 is a great gun! It's not exactly the same as a CZ83. Frankly, that price is high, you can get them like new with unblemished finish from CDNN for $189 and in good condition for $159.

I didn't think they were exactly like the 83 but very close...the 2 cz82's for sale have a lot of "paint chips" missing...I didn't realize the 82 was a "painted gun"....thought it was blued.  No sense in spending a couple of hundred bucks on something that needs some finish work when a new one in good cosmetic shape is available at less money...I'll have to see if they can be bought to come in to Moscowfornia or if I'm stuck buying person to person on a gun already here.

If I do get an 82 I guess I'd better not use brake cleaner (non clorinated) to clean it up and get the gunk out of it....if it's painted I may end up with a pistol "in the white"...I have a Makarov 9x18 that is getting the clean up treatment with brake cleaner and then CLP after it's all de cosmolined but it doesn't appear to be painted...looks like a hard blue job...I'll test it of course...probably on the magazines which are also blued.

Hello,

I'm in California and CDNN told me they don't ship here but  I just bought one from AIM, they kept the 12 round mags and gave me a $20 credit.  The 10 round CZ 83 mags work fine and are readily available.

Cheers, Eric

Eric...IGot a question for you on the AIM order....I know that they say they will ship to California and give a discount on the mags...but I can't find anywhere that the CZ82 is anywhere on the California approved handgun list so how can your local FFL finalize the sale once he gets it?  Shipping it here isn't the problem I've thought existed..it's getting it through the local FFL as a legal out of state transfer...Where did I miss it on the list?  It isn't under CZ.
any help appreciated...thanks

Hello,

It is not on the DOJ approved list. It is OK to sent to CA because it it on the curio and relic list.  My local FFL was fine with that.

Kerncat, you will have to scrub using sandpaper with the brake cleaner to remove the finish.  I tried, just using cleaner and a rag.  The rag will show a little black but the paint will still be there.

I love the 2 82s I have...both came with crap paint jobs but the rest of both of the guns looked hardly fired.  Accurate and easy to clean.  Silver Bear HPs seem to be a bit more accurate than the Brown Bear FMJ rounds.  Easy to conceal.  One of my new favorite carry pieces. As mentioned, you can get them from from under $200..

kerncat, keeep us posted and show us pics, we KNOW you got them!

$200 is a good price if they are in good shape. Sure you can buy them online for $10-$20 less then with S/H, yadda yadda it is usually about same if not more plus the wait.

Anyway, the CZ 82's are kinda like the Ruger 10/22, one of the best $200 rifles (pistol) you can spend $3,000 on!  ;D

Keep us posted! with pics of course...
