Whoa, great gun. How's it compare to the XD9?
« on: December 03, 2009, 06:33:12 PM »
Lovin' my CZ75B and was about to get the Phantom until I read a little more about the P-07. That price cannot be true! Even not on sale at Cabela's it's still way cheaper than the other guns everyone was looking at on sale.

Is this gun "comparable" to the Springfield XD9 with 4" barrel??

In size, yes.  Compared any other way, I do not know.

It is pretty close. I find the the trigger on the P07 to feel a little better then that on the XD once fired in.  It is much lighter and and smoother in my opinion.  The accuracy on my XD is a bit better, especially at longer ranges.  I think the P07 has a slightly shorter barrel and sight radius (have not measured this, correct me if I am wrong) which could be the cause of this. The P07 has a much more aggressive grip texture then a XD, a XDM has about the same level of aggression as the P07. Ergonomics in both cases are excellent, the XD wins a bit here due to the ambi mag release though. Recoil is about the same, maybe a bit lighter in the P07.  Noise and flash signature is higher in the P07.  I also think the XD take down is safer for a new shooter as it requires locking back the slide like in a SIG, this increases the probability of making sure the chamber is empty and mag is out (but we all know making something idiot proof is impossible) before disassembly. I feel pretty good about both designs though.

My only warning on the XD system is to avoid the compacts and to change out to a full lenght guide rod (Don's  Rod) on the service models. The captive recoil assembly on the XD compacts and service has been known to unscrew and "disassemble" during a course of fire causing the gun to jam in a critical and time consuming manner.  The tactical XD models already have a full length guide rod and avoid the problem. Such an upgrade is not available for the compact or the XD 45 service model. The CZ P07wins in this regard unless the recommended remedy is employed, in which case they are even.

Hope this helps.

I can't really add to czprimes excellent response other than to say I sold my XD to buy the P-07.  I prefer pistols with a hammer and manual safties verses striker fired pistols.  I personally found the CZ P-07 grip better for me also.

+2 to CZPrime.  The trigger is the primary ingredient affecting accuracy and the CZ P-07's Omega just swamps the XD. In comparison to the Full Size XDs the P-07 is smaller. As to shooting in the Omega trigger, on one of mine it was sweet at 270 rds ( all in one outing ).  The second one was sweet at 300 rds ( all in one outing ).  Get the P-07 remeber to check for a free fall magazine.  The magazine should free fall if not, send it in to CZ-USA for repair/replacement.

The few 07's I've handled in town had free falling magazines. I have read that some of these eventually stick after a few hundred rounds. I know CZ cs rocks, but I don't like waiting weeks for a return.

And the biggest issue is holsters. I'm looking for a lightweight reliable well-shooting handgun for concealed and to take along on hikes, mountaineering, etc. I do not want a mini grip ala two fingers and the 07's grip is just the right length, and the dimensions fit. But the holster issue is on my mind. Right now my faith in product and pricepoint is with springfield and cz, and their safety features are appealing from a concealed perspective. I think the Glock 26 size and caliber is nice but I don't want it as a ccw even though there is no warranted reason because I know "finger on, finger off" is #1.

On your holster issue.  For what it's worth, many holsters that fit an XD also fit the P-07 very well.  However more and more holster makers are coming out with P-07 specific holsters too.

Yamalink:  My CZ P-07 warranty issue took 5 calendar, not business, days. If size is not a matter get the Phantom it is still a lot more gun than the XD. I'd recommend a trigger job!  They smooth out a bit, but don't get lighter in time.

I find the free falling magazine issue to be temperature related. If my P07 is very cold, like the safe in my garage is now, the magazines will not fall free, but once held in my hand for a few minutes this issue resolves itself and the mags fall quite easily. Slight squeezing on the grip frame also seems to alleviate this issue.  Never have I had a failure to drop free during range practice and competition so far.  Just FYI.

BladeTech makes P07 holsters, they are not listed on the website though so call and order them over the phone.

Yeah, size is a primary factor for this specific purchase. My "big" gun is the sweet 75b. I was looking at the Sig P250 compact but it's a dao and the size is not that much diff than my xd9.

I've had several XD's, all with trigger jobs. I much prefer the P07. Trigger is better in some ways and it has a lower bore axis, which is important to me. It is also smaller feeling and carries much better IMO. That being said I am a big fan of XD's, it's just that I'm a bigger fan of the P07.

In a striker fired weapon i'd get an XDm hands down. In a hammer fired cocked and locked weapon, the P07 is hard to beat.

High Noon is offering some good inexpensive holsters for the P07, see my review in the Holster forum. 8)
