Pre B sight advice

I just got a '92 CZ 75 and need to improve the rather vestigial front sight - I dropped it off at the GS who is more of a 1911 guy - we debated what to do. It shoots low with my loads @ 15yds about 2-3 inches. I have been going more and more to fibre optics on my IDPA and defensive pistols but this front sight is very short.

What works for you guys - the rear is fine as far as I am concerned.

Fibre Optics?

Is it an OLD pre-B (with a staked front sight) or a newer pre-B (Transitional), with the lengthwise dovetail?

If its the old style front sight, you'll can probably find one for a 1911 that will work.  If its the new style sight, CZ offers one, as does Angus Hobdell, here on the forum (Ask Angus area).

Your gunsmith should be able to determine what height is needed.

It ain't cheap, but I believe that you can get NOVAKs - and they look VERY nice on a PreB.  (That would need both sights replaced).


If you are shootin low, a higher front sight will make it worse.  IF you really need to move the groups UP, you need a higher rear sight.  CZ USA MAY have a higher than standard one, but you may need a little milling to fit it.  Most PreBs have a smaller dovetail in the rear.

Many thanks - yes this is the early style with a non-dovetail front sight.  I was thinking of getting as low a fibre optic  sight as possible and perhaps an adjustable for the rear.

A gunsmith should be able to mill a suitable dovetail in the front, if he has a sight to work with.  

Don't go too low, as a low front sight gives you less room to LOWER your point of impact (if you're going to an adjustable rear).
