Where to find compeitions locally??!!???
« on: January 27, 2012, 10:30:36 PM »
I live in North Ga and would be glad to drive to any event. Looking for anything to get started and get some competition knowledge. Anyone know something in Georgia or even a contact??

Gun shops around here know nothing of such things.

Thanks for the help.

Plus there will be email addresses.  As the folks who are hosting other matches in your area.
If at first you do succeed - try to hide your astonishment.

I'll check them out. I'm sure if I can go watch an event I can get some info on some small meetings.

Anybody from Georgia on here that competes or Tennessee

Daltondak,  Welcome to the forum.

Have you tried "Googling" "Georgia USPSA Matches", or IDPA or Steel Challenge?
Another way to find them is to Google your nearest fairly large city name in front of the above.   "Macon Georgia USPSA Match", etc.
You'll get some 'hits'.

Ive been around guns and hunting since I was small, runs in my family but I've never had anything to do with competition shooting. Didn't even know the association names until this post lol.

You'll love the games.

I apologize.  The ones I mentioned are primarily "Handgun" matches.   I "Think" comp. in terms of pistols ;D, but there are numerous rifle, shotgun and 3-gun events that also can be found.  Include the "type" of gun you want to start competing with in your "Google" search.

Local matches are a LOT of fun, and you'll learn more there and much faster than you can on your own.

Have fun!

I shoot USPSA, Steel Challenge, and 3 gun in Oak Ridge, TN (my home club).  I also shoot USPSA in Greenville, TN at Tac 2.  Tac 2 shoots IDPA, Steel Challenge, 3 gun, and USPSA.  I'm about to start shooting 3 gun at Cleveland, TN as well.  They also shoot other disciplines.

Daltondak,  I strongle recommend you bring a pistol, holster and mag pouches and or rifle/shotgun with you when you go.
They will have a "new shooters" briefing and accomodate whatever equipment you bring.  You'll learn more shooting than you will watching.  Shooters are generally fine folks.  They "enjoy" helping new competitors get started.

Safety is the big thing to learn.  Next is to have fun doing it.

Here is a good video for starting IDPA. It is the standard new shooters briefing.

Georgia has some of the best IDPA clubs and shooters in the country.  GADPA also hosts the state IDPA championship, which is also one of the most challenging in the country.
