Magazine not dropping free even with flat mag brake.
« on: April 14, 2010, 11:35:03 AM »
I got the CZ custom drop free stainless magazine brake installed on my cz 75.

The mag always drops free with no rounds in the magazine.

The problem starts when I do mag changes in USPSA stages with rounds still in the magazine, it seems that the rounds still in the magazine "walk" forward and drag on the mag housing/well when I press the mag release.  This causes the mag to get stuck and not drop free.  It does not always do this, but it can be annoying when you are racing against the clock.

How can I fix this?

Thanks

It is fixed by polishing the underside of the slide.

See item #2.

I bought the pistol from CZ custom, it looked like they had polished it when they did the trigger job, but I will re-check.

Also how do I polish the slide and bevel the breech face?

Thanks

If it came out of their custom shop, call them and ask about it. Let them know what is going on.

I used 400 grit on a popsicle stick followed by 800 then a touch up with a polishing wheel. Problem went away.

What did you do glue the sandpaper to the popsicle stick?

What is a "polishing wheel"?

you could. i just wrapped it around one sheet thick to it would stay flat.

polishing wheel - used the one on my dremel taking care to avoid unflattening the surface.

burning squirrels (in my experience) is correct if yours isn't already polished.

The +10% mag springs are used by a lot of shooters and are said to prevent dragging rounds forward where weak springs were the problem.  I haven't had the problem, but I polished mine.

The polishing/bevelling can be found with a search and in the Gunsmithing-Maintenance section (at the top of the first page)  section . Stuart had some good pics showing exactly what to do.
