That did the trick.
If you're new to the Phantom and about to uptake the backstrap swap, please take a moment to read this.
1. Completely unload the firearm and visually check that it's unloaded. No magazine or ammo should be inserted at this point, if it is take it out!
2. Make sure the slide is fully forward.
3. Place the base of the frame, specifically the lanyard loop, on a hard surface. Make sure you cover the surface with something that will not mar the finish of the firearm or your wife's kitchen table/counter.
4. Apply continuous downward pressure to the top of the slide so that the lanyard loop retracts into the frame. If you go too far, don't worry it's going to stop on the backstrap pin.
5. Once the lanyard loop is fully depressed, take out the pin punch that should have come with your Phantom, lessen the downward pressure just enough that you can get the pin to shift to one side or the other. It can go either direction. You may need to wiggle the pressure downward and upward just a little as you drift the pin out.
6. Remove the pin fully. DO NOT release the downward pressure just yet! Parts will fly out and you'll become a cleche to the fullest.
7. Carefully remove the downward pressure, be sure to keep your hand at the ready.
8. The lanyard loop should fall right out. Caution, the mainspring is attached to the lanyard loop and it may fall out when you remove the lanyard loop.
9. Slide the old backstrap straight down along the spine of the frame.
10. Install the other backstrap in the reverse.
**When reinstalling the mainspring and lanyard loop, make sure you hold flip the pistol over and slightly angled toward the backstrap. This will put the hammer pin in the proper position for mainspring installation. If you do not put the pistol in this position, the hammer pin will slip into the magazine well and you will not be able to use the pistol...a function check will quickly tell you this, so follow my lead and you shouldn't have that problem. Then just insert the lanyard loop in the proper direction, apply downward pressure to it again and reinstall the pin.
