So far, so good
« on: May 12, 2010, 08:25:55 AM »
Yesterday I took possession of my brand new 75B SA.  I haven't had a chance to fire it yet -- I will this weekend -- but, so far, I'm very impressed.  The gun came saturated in oil.  I wiped down the exterior, field stripped it, and wiped down the interior as well.  I was immediately impressed at how easy it is to take the gun down and reassemble it.  It took a little effort to remove the slide release lever after I'd lined up the slide with the take down mark on the frame but I was able to do it quickly, simply by tapping on it with a small piece of wood.

I am very impressed by the gun's tightness.  Everything fits perfectly, and there's almost no play between slide and receiver.  I also really like the trigger on this gun.  I've dry fired it and my impression is that there's a little bit of slack before engagement followed by a reasonably crisp release.  It's certainly not a 1911 trigger but I found it superior to the trigger on a Browning Hi-Power that I fired recently and it's far superior to that of any striker-fired gun that I've handled.  That includes Glocks, M & Ps, XDs, and Rugers.

I also like the gun's overall fit and finish.  The exterior finish is very utilitarian but evenly applied without any marks or thin spots.  I've read a few complaints about the plastic grips but, honestly, the gun feels pretty good in my hands and I'm unlikely to change them unless I find recoil with the gun to be painful.  I seriously doubt whether that'll be a problem.  Frankly, the black plastic grips look kind of cool against that matte black frame.   The grip frame angle is just about perfect for me.

My one minor complaint is that the external safety lever is pretty tight.  It won't operate easily with a flick of my shooting hand thumb as does the safety on my 1911.

I'll post a range report as soon as I've fired it.

So far, however, I couldn't be more pleased!

Congratulations!

I don't own a 75BSA, but I have shot them a number of times.  I believe it's one of CZ's best OOB guns and trigger.

For very little money and effort that trigger can be made to compare with a 'good' 1911 trigger.

The one's I've tried shot as good as they felt.

Let us know how it shoots.
