Carbine's stock has loosened up . . .
« on: January 24, 2010, 01:56:13 PM »
Hi, all! My .223 CZ 527 Carbine has approximately 60 rounds through it. I have noticed that there is now a distinct hint of movement in the stock/action mating (up/down, not forward/backwards). It is obviously most noticeable at the fore end. The action screws were tight, but I snugged them up just a hair to see if this would remedy it. Negative results, there. I then removed the action from the stock for an overall inspection. There are no cracks or other visible damage in the stock wood. Once reassembled, she was still loose. I know most of you folks will recommend I simply glass bed it as a remedy. Sure, this might solve the problem, BUT why did/should it loosen up in the first place? There are 70+ year old rifles out there with wood stocks, and most likely hundreds of rounds through them, that are just as tight as the day they left the factory! Unacceptable, CZ!  >:(  Has this happened to any of you folks with the same, or another CZ rifle? Best!

It hasn't happened to me but maybe the rear action screw spacer is not fitted properly or the stock is too shallow there, causing the action to go tight on the spacer rather than the timber. You could temporarily remove the spacer and see if that changes anything. I'm not sure why the spacer is there but they have been for over 100 years.

I know this is an old topic but I'm going to reply anyhow. When I first got my 527 I also noticed that my stock mounting screws would loosen up and I really wasn't thrilled with the accuracy. After placing the stock in my gun vice and just resting the barred action into it I noticed that it would rock up and down slightly like a teeter totter. The problem was that the mortice for the recoil lug wasn't quite deep enough. A little work with a corless and a brad point bit cured that problem. That was about a 2 years ago. Since that time I bedded it and the gun has become probably the most accurate rifle I own

Call up the CZ customer service.  See what they tell you.
