Can the following method be used to removed the right side of the ambi thumb safety on the 85 Combat?

I changed your message to use the "link" rather than "url" function.  "url" doesn't work.

The response above is  talking about removing the safety while doing a detail strip the gun, NOT to leave it off.

If your intent it to take it off and leave it off, I'm pretty sure it won't work -- but since you know how to go about it, why not try?

(I think both sides of the safety are needed to hold the assembly in proper alignment; with one part gone it probably won't work right.)

The same method is used. The sear spring passes through a notch in the shaft of the right and left safety.  Just lift the sear spring leg up and over to the left, it will sit on the upper edge of the sear cage allowing you to remove both safety levers.

Thanks Walt for the edit.

Yes, my interest is in leaving the left half of the ambi thumb safety off. as in converting the gun to non-ambi.

I hate to say it but you can't just remove the right half as it helps keep the sear cage centered and locked in place. You can have the thumb safety lever milled down to that it is close to being flat with the frame, I have seen one gun with this done to it.  It was well done and reblued to match the polished blue of the pistol.

The two halves of the safeties come together and holds and support the sear cage.  I believe that you are talking about the right safety lever, looking at the gun from the back.
