Finishing and engraving.
« on: October 27, 2010, 04:52:36 PM »
I am considering having some engraving and re-finishing work done on my daughter's pre-B CZ 75. Actually since she is 5'4" and 120 soaking wet I'm thinking about having her trade with me for one of my pre-B 82's which are smaller and with Russian 9 x 18 rounds in it should do everything needed. If anyone has a different suggestion about which she should carry I am open to them. She can in fact fire the 75 just fine but I think it's just a little to big.

The part I am not sure about is; do you have the weapon refinished (Like parkerized) Before or after the engraving or is all that generally done by the engraver? And while on the subject any suggestions of possible engravers that can do decent to shiny work?

I did try to do a search on this Before I posted it as a new topic, But the sys told me that the last time it can up was at least 120 days ago and to try posting as a new topic.

I know a guy in Peoria, IL that does fantastic work:  http://www.engraver64.com/

Let him know that Noah referred you--I'm not sure if he'll give you any sort of discount, to be honest, but at least then he knows that I'm spreading the word :P

As far as refinishing, I believe you would do that after the engraving, but I wouldn't put any coating on an engraved item just because it would fill in the engraving.

Regarding engraving, historically fine pistols and revolvers that are engraved are usually engraved and then nickel plated, sometimes silver plated. One will find incredible engraving on blued firearms as well. Here's a pic of a CZ 75B engraved by the factory:

if youre going to have the gun engraved, i hope to the gun gods you dont have it park.  I will agree that park is fine for utility, but for engraving, you may was well take sand paper to the gun after you engrave it.

if youre going to go thru all of the trouble to have it engraved, have it blued and hopefully a high polish/quality blue.
