CZ-75 sights on a CZ-52
« on: December 03, 2010, 03:57:17 PM »
I got to thinking today after looking at my CZ-82 (same sights as 72). I've been looking to replace my sights on my CZ-52 to something a little more modern.  The slide on the 52 would have to be machined for them, but I think it'd work.  I had already filed the dovetail on the 52 so it's bigger than stock for a little idea I tried that failed, so I had to measure to make sure the slide's largest dimension is smaller than the smallest dimension of the 82's sight.

Has anyone else tried this?

Thoughts?

Yes, it has definitely been done, and it definitely requires machining new dovetails in the slide.  I don't have any links handy to the necessary sights, but the front sight and rear sight come from different parts kits, so do your research carefully.

Personally, I've seen CZ 52's at gun shows for sale used with tritium sights and also with a ghost ring sight.  I also saw one with the OEM front sight and an adjustable rear sight installed.

Yes, I have seen a couple 52s with modern sights but never investigated to see if there were sights that fit or if they were machined to fit them....

The slide on my CZ-52 was hard enough to tear up a High-Speed Steel end mill when I machined off the original sight and cut an initial groove to start a dovetail.
I had changed out the sights on my SIG-PRO P2340 and decided to use them on the CZ-52.
I ground down the SIG rear to fit into the CZ dovetail and used a set of diamond coated mini-files to finish the front dovetail in the CZ-52 slide to fit the SIG front .
The conversion works well and is worlds better than the original sight picture.

I have a complete machine shop so this was an afternoon job for me that really improved my appreciation of this pistol.

I don't know of a commercially available rear that would fit the CZ dovetail.

My next sight job will be putting Novack sights from my Taurus PT-1911 on my Yugo M57.

Novack can install sights for you if you send your slide to them .
