I think the finish Mr. Ramos is referring to is Beryllium copper-plated trigger mechanism for wear free and self-lubricating advantages on the Combat models back then. Keep in mind that Mr. Ramos book seems to have  been written in the late 80's. Another thing I've noticed about the Combat models then, is that on the left hand side of the slide it just said Model 85. No mention whatsoever to it being a special model.
I own another early model 85 Combat made in 1993, but with the ugly LPA adjustable sights. Don't know why they stopped installing factory low profile sights.
On the slide stop subject, I'm going to call tomorrow the importer here in Spain and see if they can help me. I wish we had a Mike over here.

When I was in Germany in the late 80s, I looked at German gun magazine which had CZ 75 and 85 catalog. The catalog had CZ 75&85s with different finishes and with fixed and adj sights. I remember thinking that I wish the Army PX would order some of those since they only sold the "painted" CZ75 and blued CZ85. My 1987 CZ85 has fixed sights without white dots and rounded trigger guard.

Hey guys new to the forum.  In reading the above posts it occurs to me I have an older version of the gun.  Gun is marked CZ85 and has all the features of the newer guns.  Sights are like the ones on the above chrome gun and mine has the spur hammer.  Serial # 00387 if that helps.  I'll post picture later.  Made in Czechoslovakia

Walt you mentioned to me on another post my 85 will use aftermarket mags.  Given it is an older 85 is that still true?

Regards and thanks, great forum.

If its an older gun, it will probably NOT use after-market mags.  Your only test is to try them.  (NEW factory mags should work without problems, however.)
