Me and the Boyz took the day off to hit an outdoor range today since one has a .308 and we all wanted to plink with it. Not my first choice as I get accustomed to shooting but a day at the range beats working! Their plinking pit allows you to set up "targets" 25-100 yards and we bought some cheap plant stakes and oranges to pop at. I was shooting my new SP-01 and being new to shooting, did much better than I thought I would at 50 yds. In 150 rounds of mixed ammo, I managed two oranges and two stakes split in half. Mind you, I've never shot at further than 8 yards before today.
Unfortunately, the guy with the long gun got a perma ban early on for a ND that went above the markers. He had a stove pipe and after dropping the mag, he cycled the action which cleared the shell but also chambered a round that was partially home(?). He triggered early and off it went. Sucks that he can no longer go there but it was unsafe and clearly noted in the range rules.
We then hit an indoor range on the way back and I proceeded to put another 150 through the weapon and after remembering to tighten my grip, started to see some improvement. I had been consistently low and after the grip and site adjustment, was striking pretty well imo.
I ran 100 WWB 115g, 50 Fiocchi 115g, 50 Blazer Brass 115g, 50 UMC leadless 124g flat nose, and 50 Rem 147g without a single failure of any kind. Once the slide closed when I changed magazines but that was it. The gun performed far better than I did but I can't wait to do it again.
Hopefully the precleaning and oiling I did yesterday will payoff as I clean it up now but I gotta say, my buddy with with an HK45 that only shot 100 rounds looked like he was going to have a tougher time. His muzzle was grey about a full inch back while the Sp-01 was still black as night.
I'll get to posting some pictures once my target look like I know what I'm doing!
Peace.
