cz 452 WMR firing Problems
« on: March 11, 2011, 07:50:07 PM »
I hauled my wmr to a Sage Rat shoot the other day and had the following problems.

Chambered a round, pulled the trigger, click.

Chambered another round, pulled the trigger, click.

Chambered another round, cycled the safety, click.

Re cocked the chambered round, cycled the safety, BANG.

Chamber several more rounds with the above results.

OK So now before I start the exploration of the bolt, etc., are there any known issues that fit the above problems?
And are there any good diagrams of the 452 wmr bolt?

I have tried the archives and as of yet have not found a solution.

Thanks in advance
Bob

I have a few questions, How old is the rifle ? And what kind or type of ammo are you using ? My first thought would be, It's a used rifle. Have you taken the bolt apart and cleaned the fire pin and spring ?

Thanks Tinner
The rifle is new, well I bought it last year, and it has less than 100 rounds through it.  It sat for about a year after cleaning.

I Dissambled the bolt to look for a broken spring, but everything looked fine.  It is still covered with the (apparently original) factory oil.

It all looks good, and I can't figure why the pin would not strike the rim, every time.

try a heavier firing pin spring was the firing pin left in the cocked position while it sat a year. I got a heavier firing pin spring from this place called JP enterprises, its on the web. They have other stuff like hex screws to replace the action screws.

Thank you lopezni
I never ( or try to never) leave the guns cocked, just for that reason, but who knows.

I have read, here and other places, about the need for a heavier spring, but this one is so new and I would have thought if it was an issue CZ would have fixed it.

I hate replacing parts hopeing to fix a problem, I would really like to know for sure.

Thanks again

Well
Ii sent Dave (of "yo Dave trigger kit" fame) an email.  The guy could have sold me a kit, but instead told me what to try first.

Here is his reply:
If your striker is not hitting the rim, or if it is hitting light and causing a misfire I am going to suggest taking the bolt apart and giving it a good cleaning. A very light oiling of the striker is all that you need, make sure to clean the bolt housing, any grease in there could effect striker performance. The trigger kit will alter your trigger pull weight only, the striker spring will add more force to your striker hit however it still sounds like your bolt needs a tear down and a good cleaning. Use a very light oil on the components of the bolt, 3 in 1 oil or similar should be your choice for this
