CZ 75B 9mm jams when racking the slide
« on: April 25, 2011, 09:49:48 PM »
I'm a fairly new shooter so I might not use the correct terminology here...so please bear with me.

I insert a magazine fully loaded with 16 rounds of 115 gr FMJ (Whitebox).  When I rack the slide to chamber the first round, the slide jams and the cartridge does not feed properly.  I discovered that if I pull the slide all the way back and let go (in one quick motion), the round is chambered with no problem.  Also, if I use the slide release to chamber the first round, there is no problem.  I have not experienced any problems with loading or ejecting while shooting, just when putting in a fresh magazine and racking the slide at a "normal" speed.

Is this common for the 75 9mm?

Thanks!

"Racking" the slide is done "NORMALLY" one of the two ways you were successful with.

This is not "uncommon" for any pistol.  The normal speed for a slide is what the recoil spring gives it when the slide is all the way to the rear from the previous shot.  Releasing the slide lock gives it just a little less recoil spring 'push', but also will reliably chamber a round.

Pulling the slide back and NOT releasing it--easing it forward-- will often cause a jamb in any pistol. The slide's "inertia" is what strips the cartridge fom the mag and feeds it into the chamber

Hope this makes sense.
