Hi Guys,
I've had a CZ Kadet for about two years now, and it has quickly become one of my favorite .22lr pistols.
I was out in the woods today doing some plinking, when I fired a round and instantly felt my face get hit with a ton of
hot powder and debris. It felt almost like the gun had blown up. I set the gun down on the ground and checked myself over
to make sure I wasn't hurt. (I'm fine!) When I picked the gun back up, I didn't see any damage, but went ahead and field
stripped it just to make sure. Everything checked out fine, and I even took the gun apart again this evening for cleaning
and there is no damage anywhere.
The one thing I did notice is that all of the remaining rounds in the magazine (5 rounds) were heavily blacked with
soot/powder residue.
Any idea what type of malfunction this could have been? I know that there was NOT a barrel obstruction, as I the round I
fired immediately before the malfunction hit its target.
These are the three possibilities that come to my mind:
1. Overcharged round
2. Maybe the gun fired out of battery? (Is this possible on a Kadet?)
3. Case head separation or blow out? (I assume this can happen on a .22lr just like with a centerfire round?)
I tried to locate the spent casing to see if there was any obvious damage, but being out in the woods in tall grass I
couldn't find it.
At this point I'm just curious if any other Kadet shooters have had a similar experience. I'm not new to guns or shooting,
but this is the first malfunction of this type that I have had.
Thanks!
James
