Another new CZ owner
« on: November 18, 2011, 06:40:32 PM »
After alot of research and browsing this site, I decided the 75B was the gun for me.  Well I just picked this one up today from my FFL after buying it online.  So far this gun feels great in the hand and is in great shape for being made in 1996.  I hope to get to the range this weekend to see how it shoots.

The previous owner said it has had about 3000 rounds through it, and it shows because it is very dirty on the inside.  What is the best way to go about cleaning the inside, like the trigger and hammer mechanism?
And thanks for all of the great information, I this site has been a tremendous help!

I hose them down with brake cleaner. I would take those grips off first. They look like they might melt from the brake cleaner. You will need to reoil everything because all the oil will get washed out.  Mark

I saw some stuff in a spray can like brake cleaner, but for guns.   I think it was called gun scrubber or something like that.  Is that ok to use on these guns?  I read somewhere about the polycoat possibly being affected.

Also, I read the sticky about CZ75 military issue guns.  How can I determine for sure if mine is?  It was made in '96, and has the thumb rest grips.  The only thing I'm not sure about is if it came with a 10rd mag because I only have the one 16rd.

I do not think any military adopted the cZ 75.  However, someone will be sure to correct me.  You can use non-chlorinated brake cleaner which is less expensive than the "branded" gun cleaners, same stuff.

I also noticed that it has a metal recoil spring guide.  Aren't they plastic from the factory? And is there a way to tell what I have if it is after-market?

That is a military. I had one just like it. It had a great trigger with hardly any take up single action. I should of kept it.

BTE....  It does look like a military gun to me...BUT that
does not degrade it a bit... I use the commercial product "Gun
Scrubber" by Birchwood and it will remove ALL oil and grease from
the pistol without any problem.... Do remember to oil the pistol
when you finish cleaning it to prevent corrosion. Let us know
how it shoots when you go to the range... Congrats!!

I took it to the range and shot 100 rounds through it.  I have to say, once I got comfortable with the gun and how it reacts, It shot very well.  I love it, and I already got complimented on my choice of firearm!  I will be going to the range again this weekend with some friends to get more aquainted and try out the new Hogue grips.
