CZ 52 magazines
« on: September 11, 2011, 07:22:42 PM »
Hey everyone, I've got a question. My father just passed and left me a few firearms, one of which is a CZ 52 x54 with 4 magazines. The pistol is in amazing condition with newer wooden traditional CZ grips. I've heard the original magazines can be quite spendy, how much does a good condition original mag go for?

I don't need to buy new mags i just wanted to know what the original magazines were worth. I just seem to remember him saying they were very hard to find and that he spent a bit on them.

I'm very sorry about your father's passing.  That's never easy.

In the last year I've seen OEM CZ 52 mags priced as low as $15 each on gun show tables, and I've seen ads for $35 each that seemed way too high.  My hunch is that they are worth somewhere in between.

Let's speculate a bit....  Remember, almost 100,000 CZ 52 pistols were imported into the US after the fall of the Iron Curtain.  That means almost 200,000 OEM magazines came into the US, and almost all of them should still be in workable condition.  If there is any artificial shortage of them, it is because some were separated from their original pistols and were sold to other buyers, which is probably how your dad ended up with four.  That means three other pistol owners have only one, which generated the demand for magazines that is now being satisfied with aftermarket mags.  Price competition comes from those newer mags, not from a lack of original mags.

So, the law of supply and demand rules here, which means that anything for sale is only worth what someone else will actually pay for it.

Whatever you do, do not buy the Triple-K mags. I just bought one that the seller said was a updated design and the problems have been fixed.

After the 5th or 6th time using that mag the follower blew out of the top and jammed the gun up big time.

I've learned my lesson. Either OEM or the Keep-Shooting mags for me.

None of the on line suppliers have the original mags, but Keep-Shooting mags work great.
