hey thats not supposed to happen.........
« on: October 12, 2011, 08:54:36 PM »
First time shooting my CZ 52 I got about half way through the second magazine when I had a failure to feed.
Because there was no more ammo in the gun ???

Hmmmm.... pretty sure that was not 8 rounds I just shot. Oh look there they are..On the ground!

The base plate ejected itself and the magazine vomited up everything it had inside, ammo, spring, follower.
After finding the pieces and checking things over it all looked good so I reassembled and fired off another 5 or so magazines with no issues.

Is this common?

I like the gun is a odd sort of way but do I need to wear steel toe shoes to the range with these?

Well, it's never happened to me, but that's purely anecdotal.  It might have happened to someone else....

I've put lots of rounds through my CZ52. Never had that happen. Can you tell if the magazine is original or aftermarket?

I've had some bad luck with Tripple-K mags. Although they blew the follower out the top. Not out the bottom...

Lol... just my normal luck.

I don't have the magazine with me as it is still in my range bag. I will look to see if there is any identifying marks, crossed swords for CZ correct?

It is the only mag I own for the gun but am heading to a gun show this weekend so will be on the lookout.
How are the aftermarket mags marked?

Thanks guys

Common?  Nope!  You can usually blame this on an ill fitting or broken Mag Floorplate or bad Mag Tube Flooplate lips.

Have seen this "B-52 Bomber Effect" on a Hi-Cap STI .38 Super Race Gun when during an IPSC Match Run, the poor guys Extended Mag Floorplate came apart and all of what was left (at least 15 rounds) in the Mag dropped "Bombs Away" onto the concrete range floor.  Much grumbling ensued afterwards.  Stuff happens!  We gave him a second run and everything went well, but the same thing happened two weeks later with yet a different magazine.  Wound up getting some newer Extended Magazine Pads.

You just have to be vigilant on the condition of your equipment.  Magazines in particular.

Well, I'm late to the party, but, yes, I have had it happen with original mags.  The base plate was loose and worked its way off.  Not the sort of "mag dump" I wanted.  I used pliers to tighten the plate and it worked fine after that.
